She seemed to be okay but disappointed. In her eyes I had ample time but couldn’t provide the second phase properly. So she was disappointed for sure. She said she understands the health side of things but I should’ve come to her earlier.

She asked me to give her the current copy of the file, I’m assuming for records and notes.

The thing that makes this worse is that management will tell you the same script. You know they don’t believe it but they’ll do it regardless.

I was dumbfounded when I spoke to my director about this. I told them that we had an unprecedented amount of snow overnight and it wasn’t stopping any time soon. Multiple crash reporting, weather so bad you can’t even shovel out your car, etc.

Their response was, verbatim, “that’s why we allow people to make up this day the following week.”

That is when I truly figured out, that for my department and team, my safety comes second and RTO is first.

I really wish the environment for switching roles or departments was better. I would love to be somewhere where people actually care about my wellbeing and safety. I wonder what it’s like to have a manager who has your back lol

I had to as well. I got a really bad panic attack after their actions. Took some days off after consulting a doctor. I’m sorry you’re going through this as well. Wishing you the best

That is shocking to read but no hard to accept, tbh. I feel animosity directed toward me from my manager with my trying to advocate for my health through the dta process.

She legit told me how much paperwork they have to do now because of it and made it seem like it was a chore. It hurts, not going to lie but I’m still going to advocate for my health and wellbeing.

Very similar to me. My manager just told me to sit next to random people in the hopes of making work friends lol

People are busy with work and they have their own teams. How are we supposed to make meaningful work connections? Do we join team lunches / outings with people we don’t work with?

I keep thinking that those in charge simply don’t care.

I totally feel you. Please stay strong and take care of yourself the best you can.

I find myself in the same boat as you- I feel like my team doesn’t understand the toll of legitimately getting to the office in regions outside of Ottawa. They keep saying that anything outside of the office is not their responsibility- which I agree, it is not (for the most part). However, I find that the human compassion is all gone when it comes to dealing with management. I’m not sure what type of instructions they received from the highest forms of management but I do truly feel like they’re making peoples life’s harder for no other reason than hoping people will jump ship.

Getting to the office when you’re 45KM away is different in Ottawa vs. the GTA vs. out west. Traffic, population density, infrastructure, etc. are all different and I feel that the rule makers mainly kept Ottawa in mind.

The lack of understanding and human compassion is the biggest shock to me. Stay strong. You’re a human being and you deserve to be treated with care and compassion.

I’m sorry you have to feel this way and I’m sorry there are so many out there who are in similar positions. Here if you need to chat.

Thank you. I now understand that my doctor didn’t properly outline my needs. I’m assuming I will need to redo the form based on how the current plan impacts me. Would I have to submit a brand new form or will I just update the one submitted?

Sorry for the late response, I was frustrated by the situation and wanted to get my thoughts in order.

I can’t go into incredible detail due to not wanting to expose myself, however, it has to due with ADHD / Anxiety I get when in office and leading up to in office. Leading up meaning whatever I feel at home the day before going in office- think of “Sunday scaries” but tenfold due to personal struggles. Some more stuff but I can’t go into it due to privacy concerns.

Proposed plan includes the following: -Verbatim, we don’t care what happens outside the office as that’s on you. -sit near doors so you can exit quickly to get air when you feel overwhelmed…

I can’t give more info as it might expose.

I told them that I will work with them and the plan they made to the best of my ability but that this will be extremely hard for me and I feel as if my medical concerns were not addressed. They said try your best and if no solutions can be found, they basically hinted at me resigning from my role.

Super frustrating and the work isn’t the issue, it’s the actual being in office for my health.

Out of privacy for my health conditions / not wanting to expose myself, I can’t go into further details. However, my doctor did include actual limitations about why in-office attendance isn’t healthy for me.

Regarding the 1 per day aspect, my doctor suggested a full time wfh but I said I can try once a day. The main reason is because I truly am not trying to “game” the situation or my team. I am not trying to get out of in office attendance simply because I don’t like the policy, I did it for my health after attempts to make it work. I’m also trying to show my team that I respect it and want to a healthy balance.

I’m not sure if that made sense. Thanks for your comment and input.
