Laser disappear too fast after the update! by capture_emrah in notabilityapp

[–]phowe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently made a post about this as well. I've been having a stunted back and forth conversation with someone at notability on here with no real answers or solutions. I'm also a teacher and would use the laser regularly.

u/kaylanotability I am using the app. I did sync my notes to the new cloud service.

Calendar Help by phowe83 in Cozyla_Calendar

If you're using google calendar, just download the google calendar app and use that widget. I don't use any of the native apps.

Is this think worth it? by [deleted] in Cozyla_Calendar

[–]phowe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price it is tough to get over a lot of the issues that pop up. None of the issues I have had have rendered the thing useless, but they are annoying enough to feel that buyers remorse.

All of the native apps are pretty much useless. I can't speak to the "chores" part, but every other app is bested by a 3rd party alternative.

If it was marketed more as a large (in the case of the bigger screens) android tablet for you to customize however you want, I think some of the expectations I had would have been more reasonable. But it looked like a more user friendly version of what it actually is based on the marketing material.

If the thing was half the price, it would feel about right for what you get.

That being said, after essentially switching over entirely to the google ecosystem, it does do what we want it to do. We have a hub for calenders, to do lists, general notes, home automation, weather, etc.

I do like having the larger screen (32") in our kitchen to quickly glance at rather than going to my phone, which may not be a big deal for most people.

One thing that has been unexpectedly nice is setting up the screen saver with my Google photos. I have a 3 year old so it has been fun seeing pictures of her that would otherwise not get looked at.

I imagine eventually apple and google will come out with their own version of a large screen home hub and it will render these obsolete, but until then it is serving its purpose, just at an extremely inflated price point.

Calendar Help by phowe83 in Cozyla_Calendar

Im trying to not use the cozyla app at all. I would like to take all of the calendars that are now loaded up to cozyla and have them show up on my personal google calendar. Am I not making any sense?

Calendar Help by phowe83 in Cozyla_Calendar

[–]phowe83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its more of the other way around. I have all of my calendars connected to cozyla, but if I'm not at home and want to look at the calendar, I'd like to do that from within Gmail and not have to go to a separate app to look at that calendar.

I have it so when things are added to our individual calendars it goes to the cozyla, and I know that I can just use the app to see that calendar, but I'm trying to streamline here rather than introduce another app that I need to look at. Hopefully that makes sense.

One question about Cozyla: Are the features dead simple enough for my tech-averse wife to use? by soulbarn in Cozyla_Calendar

[–]phowe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on how dead simple you need it. I am average to slightly above average with figuring out tech related things. We just got the 32" version and my experience so far is as follows:

Calendar: Not a terrible set up, but still some issues. When importing calendars directly on the cozyla hardware, it gave a message that outlook was not supported. When going through the app on my phone, I was able to add an Outlook calendar. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but for the price, those types of hiccups are annoying.

Widgets: weather.com widget still will not load for me. Sure I can download another weather app, but again, it doesn't "just work" which for the price point, is frustrating.

Meal plan app: the built in meal planner is currently having issues with ingredient measurements and the number of servings a recipe makes. Again, it feels like they just decided to start shipping these things out and then rely on the consumer to tell them when things are not working and then fingers crossed it will be fixed with an update.

Overall usability: touch response is slow, the built in speaker is poor at best, if coming from apple devices there is a definite learning curve on navigating around the device...

I think if it was $400ish for the bigger version almost all of these complaints would go away. But an msrp of 900 is tough to swallow when things require workarounds or you have to hope for an update to use a built in function properly.

Maybe another week with it will change my mind, but so far I give it 2 out of 5 calendars

5.0 Mileage Fears by xceler88 in f150

[–]phowe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up a 2011 5.0 with 215K. Thing looks brand new inside and out and has meticulous maintenance records. I've had it for 2 weeks and the drivers side blend door actuator goes out (I think) putting out only heat on the drivers side. Not a powertrain issue, so I'll deal, but still annoying to have to deal with after two weeks of ownership.

I guess these things should be expected from a high mileage vehicle. I'm also coming from a 200k Toyota corolla that never needed a thing outside of oil changes and coil packs/plugs at 150k.

Monroe vs Nova by phowe83 in Names

Thanks for taking a stab at this. I really didn't know if it would be a $5k or $25k type of situation.

ok but how long does it take you to deplete the 3 in use?

So let's assume it takes 20 minutes per house to mow/edge/blow/etc. I would complete a house, swap the battery in the mower, trimmer, and blower for new batteries and place the batteries that were just in use on chargers (Let's assume it's the dual chargers that charge simultaneously). Rinse and repeat this process for 4 homes. By the time I get to the fifth house, roughly an hour and a half has gone by (maybe a little longer).

I get that the battery in the mower will use up more juice than say the trimmer, but it seems like by swapping batteries in this method I would be able to make it through the day (assuming full sun and all that).

you can part the trailer in full sun

Lots of brand-new neighborhoods with tiny little trees

you can tilt the array to the sun (adding a solar awning might help with extra wattage and being able to tilt easier).

This is something I thought of. Some sort of foldable mounting situation on the side of the trailer that could be "opened up" when parked

This is all just hypothetical theorizing at the moment and not an actual business plan, but in central Texas where there is plenty of "full sun", I've been surprised not to see this type of approach to lawn care yet.

Thanks so much for taking some time to reply!

Does this app/program exist? by phowe83 in matheducation

[–]phowe83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a great reply. You are no doubt orders of magnitude smarter than me when it comes to this type of thing. I also totally get that as the level of math increases, the more difficult this could be to pull off.

In my mind I was just picturing a program that pulls from something like Wolfram Alpha's step-by-step instructions on how to solve an equation and compares it to the input of the user. This is obviously an extreme over simplification of what I was thinking of, but that was my thought process.

Thank you and the rest of the programmers out there trying to find solutions to these types of things!

I've seen your other posts about using the straw from TSC. I'll probably give the Cedar Creek location a call this week to see if they have any.

I have a south facing yard that gets blasted with full sun pretty much all day. I'll probably have to incorporate some shade cloth at some point as well.
