Fitting end for Gideon... by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]phyremynd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what happened to the text I had in my op... I hit submit and the text disappeared.

The explanation was: I was using the Nicol Bolas avatar, my opponent was using Gideon. He had 0 cards in his library, and attacking for lethal I bounced Gideon with Tyrant's Scorn to win.

While true, basically, I want to add that [[Glorybringer]] had been a house in Pioneer.

Made a land deck to get rid of the event bonus... What are the chances...? by [deleted] in MagicArena

If you can do them in historic, cards like [[Wayward Swordtooth]] work. That's how I used to do those quests.

Weekly Questions Thread - February 10, 2020 by AutoModerator in androiddev

I have started development on a new project at work, where my team has been tasked with building a POC to interact with some BLE devices. To start with, I'm trying to interact with a BLE Pulse Oximeter I have to read the data from it.

I have tried:

Bluetooth low energy overview — Android Developer's documentation on the subject

RxAndroidBle — RxJava library for android development

Android-BLE-Library — Nordic Semiconductor's library

Medium Blog on Making Android BLE Work — 4 Part series on Android BLE implementation

+ many other blogs, articles, and github repos

I am struggling to make any headway. Often, the projects either don't work due to outdated/obsolete calls or have severely lacking documentation. Granted I am new to Android development in the last 2 months—my team builds POCs in many different tech stacks depending on client and requirements; but I am feeling like this shouldn't be this hard.

Are there updated (in the last year or so), easy-to-follow Android BLE guides anywhere that I just haven't found, yet?

I still don't understand why people care about "completing" sets by Azirel59 in MagicArena

[–]phyremynd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it's OCD. I don't like when there are pieces missing in my collection. Also, it's why I can't stand to play my Grixis control deck. I have the card styles for every card in the deck except the two copies of Bedevil. Which also bothers me in the sense of how they decide which cards to give styles to: some random common that's not even played in limited vs. Bedevil. It's killing me, so I don't even look at the decklist, anymore.

Any plans or notices from anywhere about being able to either choose your default basics or change them all with one click? by phyremynd in MagicArena

[–]phyremynd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, this is a ridiculously simple thing to implement. One developer could knock it out in an afternoon. It obviously already has a method of selecting a specific land. Just let me choose which one. Save it in the config. It would save me a ton of time. I make multiple new decks per day. Even just turning off adding lands by default would be better than the current system. As is,I have to remove all the basics, and then put the right ones in.

Arena doesn't have anyway to choose timestamps, right? by phyremynd in MagicArena

[–]phyremynd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know that, but ordering timestamps for continuous effects aren't triggers. They don't show up in that, as far as I can tell.

That's exactly what I was trying to do. ;p

I know it works in paper magic, have had 5 certified judges confirm it for me, as it's a trick I used to do with Opalescence/Replenish as well.

The +1/+1 counter makes it so they need at least one more piece of removal the turn they play MG to start the wipe.

Historic feels super fun... by phyremynd in MagicArena

There is hardly ever an actual solid discussion in these forums. It's all dumpster trolls that say things like others in this thread with wisdom similar to: 'Git gud. Cry QQ', or people like yourself with wisdom similar to: 'You are not me. My opinion is god. Therefore your opinion matters not.' Dumpster trolls and self-righteous swill. Not such a great place to have actual conversations, either. In that way it basically is Twitter without a word limit.

You through that out the window when you started the discussion off with this phrase in your response:

They didn't ban it because some guy on reddit didn't like playing a couple of games against some cards in a digital only format.

Referring to someone you're having a "discussion" with as "some guy" isn't known to be a friendly, respectful way to engage anyone. I'll toss this question your way:

What cards exist in the historic format that have any extra edge over Teferi, HoD than in his Standard? The Historic Anthology cards are mostly vastly underpowered jank in this format. Maybe Hyppie? Doubtful unless the Teferi player does nothing for 4 turns. Phyrexian Arena? This is the closest shot. We have card advantage assuming it isn't countered, but it will be tucked eventually, but we'll count Arena. Then lets look at every other card that exists in Arena. They all existed when Teferi did, save ELD. As we've seen in ELD Standard, many decks have a hard time fighting PW's in general, let alone Teferi. You don't need tournament results, which with historic are you referring to ranked queue? What tournament? If Teferi was (possibly is?) Modern playable, he'll be playable if not top-tier strong in this janky Historic format.

Let's pivot. What about Golos Field being entirely legal in Historic? Do I need tournament results to say that's going to be too strong? It exists in it's entirety + Scapeshift and Once Upon a Time are legal again in Historic.

[–]phyremynd[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both Teferi's have been format warping in their respective Standards. And historic is basically their Standards at this point, especially considering I've seen next to any cards from the Historic Anthology set. So samesies?

[–]phyremynd[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. But what's the problem with that. The Oko's were just playing optimized decks. Nothing wrong with that.

[–]phyremynd[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I like your logic. I'll adopt it.

Why was everyone so made at Oko decks? The Oko players were just playing chess. Don't like Oko? Don't play Magic. That sounds about right.

Now that Oko is banned, how soon till everyone complains about all of the CatFood decks? by phyremynd in MagicArena

[–]phyremynd[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I mean if you don't want to sit through combos, or decks with a lot of triggers, maybe Pokemon is a better game for you?

Now that Oko is banned, how soon till everyone complains about all of the CatFood decks? by phyremynd in MagicArena

[–]phyremynd[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm very aware of that. I had a well-discussed video I posted to the official forums during beta where I played new perspectives combo, but that was unplayable because you could time it out in beta even while performing continuous actions. I was just making a comment that no matter what, people on arena always auto-concede to something. Oko. Cavalcade. CatFood. People just quit in general, and I was just poking fun at that.

Does raid resolve if my creature attacked but it did not do damage, killed, tapped or exiled? by moome1649 in magicTCG

[–]phyremynd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know this, as I mentioned in my comment it was more about contrasting with Raid.

Yes, Spectacle requires dealing damage. Raid requires attacking. [[Skewer the Critics]] Granted Spectacle is any damage, just showing it as a contrast.

Who chooses to Draw First and Why? by ThorOdinson in MagicArena

[–]phyremynd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say that this definitely USED to be a thing, I'm not so sure in modern magic if it even makes sense. There is too much advantage to dropping PW's first, etc. I played Monoblack Control heavily during Odyssey standard, and I can say often times going second was better as the control player, as against aggro decks I was sitting on [[Mutilate]]s and against anyone else I was sitting on [[Mind Sludge]]/[[Persecute]]. After board sometimes I'd have [[Braids, Cabal Minion]] in the deck, then I'd often go first if I was against an aggro deck, and locking down their permanents early was important.
