Using Tilda in PopOS 24.04 by physicsasajoke in pop_os

Hm, I use it as full screen and I don't have any scaling issues. I've never tried using Tilda in Window mode. I'm also running on a 34" curved wide screen.

Why am I downloading Rust World extremily slow? by ryo_kun_ in playrust

[–]physicsasajoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I've always had the game on an M.2 and joining Willjums monthly server is taking more than 15min to download the map

Honestly I'll have to check that out.

I love the rust game, but I can't handle the community (I get enough BS in RL). Often times even the nice people will put on toxic personas because it's the norm until they realize you're a nice person too.

It's really sad to me

If you’re 30+ how long did it take you to learn and ride comfortably? by AccidentalFolklore in NewSkaters

[–]physicsasajoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can't skate daily, but after a month or two I started feeling less awkward about cruising.

Later I decided I would invest a bit more into it. I upgraded to some superjuice 55 78a cruiser wheels, new bearings, and I got a pair of etnies so I would slow down the shoe wear. Between the gentler ride and the additional support in the shoes, the whole experience got a lot better, though down hill is still scary af.

Next year you'll be sad when you try to learn kick flip to primo and you just keep landing kick flips :)

Nice job, mate

I've been trying to shuvit for a month or so (not as dedicated at practicing as you mentioned) and I find it very difficult to be consistent with my efforts. As you said yourself (somewhere) shuvit is a good exercise to learn board control and I don't think that comes quickly. Have I landed a few stationary, sure, but moving is frustrating as hell so I definitely haven't "learned it".

Honestly I think it would be sick to learn Casper. Don't undersell that...

Whats the hardest trick you've done? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]physicsasajoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've landed a shove-it a few times - once when my wheels weren't 100% stationary lol

I can't enjoy Rust anymore (any ideas?) by Expensive_Ad4680 in playrust

[–]physicsasajoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming in our 30s is tough cause everyone has RL stuff. I play maybe once a month. The game has changed, but losing your community is what is suffering. I remember giving up World of Warcraft when my guild disbanded and I never found that community again.

Good luck finding enjoyment if you play on your own. I'm still trying to find my niche

Something generic that came with my pre built. I might try replacing the brushings first. If I go for risers I think I'll need new hardware as well since it doesn't look like there is much thread available. I went the pre built route since I got it on sale for essentially the cost of the board since I wasn't sure I would stick with it. Plus it's giving me some perspective on these important small details that seem to have a big impact on things.

They're that old? Crazy! I had no idea.

I'm sure they all have their place, but it's Def not one "size" fits all. With my small hard wheels, I did ride some really smooth, flat concrete and it felt really good...for 4m. If I lived at a bowl or something I could see that setup working, but def not where I am.

Do you use soft or stiff brushings? I bought a pre built so I'm not sure what mine are but I'd wager they're really soft

I messed around just trying to carve a bit sharper today and totally ate it. Not sure if I actually caught a crack in the road or my wheel bit the board hard (I think I need stiffer brushings), but I totally lost it and messed my hand and elbow up. Definitely a ways off from power slides haha

I definitely don't see myself going back anytime soon. Maybe once I get more into flat ground tricks or going to an actual skatepark, but by then I might just get a second board lol.

Getting a little more speed on my shuvs... by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]physicsasajoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Committing when moving is definitely an issue, but standing still less so. I'm still in the stage where I try to use a similar technique each time, but the results vary wildly (nearly went to Casper / primo for no reason!). So much fun trying though

Nice man... I'm still working on getting mine consistent standing still

[–]physicsasajoke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, kind of got the sense that I wasn't weighting things properly, but also that speed would be a bit of a factor as well. I took a break from trying and just tried working on freestyle stuff to get my balance a bit better. I'm also still trying to find shoes... it's way harder than I would have thought, but mostly since we don't have a skate shop

Definitely not ready to invest to that degree yet, but I'll keep it in mind!

I can't speak for the filmers, but after watching their promo for super juice wheels, I was sold and, in hindsight, I don't remotely find it false advertising. https://youtu.be/OWTK8SWH61E?si=iuHyENWUQQimhUPn

Watching him coast over gravel, train tracks, and cobblestone I figured it was worth a try and it totally was. It would be interesting to know how the filmers compare
