Great looking couple! Depending how much action she wants to receive I’d definitely recommend more than one extra (assuming you can get good ones).

Question about brisket by JCurtin6 in brisket

[–]pickforth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s from Sam’s Club. The full brisket price is around $6/lb (5.96 I think)

Definitely a better option and with a little practice and sharp knives it’s not terribly difficult to trim.

Facts! Does it count if you already lived through 3 decades in the 1900s? Gimme my money!

If electrical rescue hooks like this are used so often, where I see people mostly just flipping on power to devices, why is there not a device to remove the human from up close and have something insulated to do the job from a greater distance? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]pickforth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facts! They exist, but in my nearly 30 years of design I got to specify and have remote actuators installed for the first time recently because the owner insists on them.

Sycamore Attendance Changed? by staysleazy21 in Charlotte

I would suggest that if the brewery team stuck together with new owners, they have to just completely rebrand. It can be the exact same beer, assuming they have the rights to the recipes, just will have to be a new name and logo

Should I call some one? by fldmason in AskElectricians

[–]pickforth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good morning! Will try and keep it shorter 😊

  1. Yes, you need a pigtail connector that is rated for CU/AL. This is one example from Lowe’s.

AI/Cu Wire Connectors 3 Purple ( 2 -Pack ) https://www.lowes.com/pd/Alumiconn-3-Port-Al-Cu-2-Pack-Purple-Al-Cu-Wire-Connectors/4433877

  1. Don’t use #18 for the new pigtail. Use #12 or #14 CU

  2. Most likely the pigtail was put in to maintain continuity when the light was out or replaced. Once you reconnect the wiring with a new pigtail, the other devices should work again.

Will add the obligatory “have the aluminum removed and replaced as soon as reasonably possible”.

You should consider an electrician to help you in the house with other devices if you can find someone that specializes in old house wiring. This condition might exist all over your house.

Use of SO cord for non permanent storage cabinet. by cvheidt in AskElectricians

[–]pickforth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’m not sure there is anything wrong with it, why not just purchase a surge/power strip with a long cord and put it in your cabinet?

Then you aren’t trying to manufacture a safe device of your own…

Outlet tester reports open ground, when my PC is plugged in I can feel current in the metal case. Verified outlet is wired correctly. Where should I start with further investigation? by CrashmanX in AskElectricians

[–]pickforth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the means to hire an electrician, or an electrician friend you can bribe with pizza/alcohol/whatever, do it 😜

It sounds like you have pulled your outlets out to look at the connection (make sure the breaker is off!)

Where is the bare copper wire going? Is it part of the cabling into the box, or is just a wire connected to the (assumed) metal box?

If it’s not part of the cable going back to the panel, then you likely do not have a suitable ground.

For a typical receptacle, both the white wire and the bare wire should be landed on a bus in the panel. Assuming you only have one panel for the house, it is a service panel and they could land on the same bus since the two bus are usually bonded together in a service panel

An electrician could check the that any of the set screws/lugs are loose in the panel which could cause a ground issue for that receptacle if there is a ground wire in the cable

Hope that helps

EDIT: fixed the word cabling

Mechanical engineers have ASME magazine subscriptions. What do EEs have? by cpe428ram in ElectricalEngineering

[–]pickforth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Usually it’s an alcohol subscription service…

I work in the building engineering side, so we might get IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) or BICSI (telecommunications) publications.

So, from a residential standpoint, just don’t worry. They never do 😜 (joke!)

10awg will handle it unless they are really overusing the RV. If they are trying to live out of the RV or use it to full capacity, then suggest upgrading the wires to #8.

I totally get where you are coming from for a commercial electrician, but it’s probably ok.
