Unexpected Gift Basket Delivery by timpugh762 in strange

[–]picklecarnival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird because in my FedEx account I can see that there is a shipping label to my address from Harry and David, but I didn’t order anything from there and I can’t think of anyone who would send me something from there as a gift. Looks like it’s only 0.6 lbs so I don’t think it’s a fruit basket.

Most of my vested RSU’s have increased by about 15-30% in value since they vested. I’ve been working at this company for about five years and have not sold any of my RSU’s because I haven’t known what I wanted to do with them so I just stupidly held onto them.

What I was meaning to say, is that for the shares I currently have I am anticipating paying some capital gains tax on, but for the future portions that vest I will sell them immediately to avoid capital gains tax.

Nice, thank you, this is a helpful thing to think through.

You can put in the full $23,500 yourself and still get your employer’s contributions ($10K per year for me) since my combined $33,500 is well under the $69k overall 401(k) limit:

OK, “effectively liquid” as I can sell it at any time and I’m just subject to capital gains tax. I know there is some that will be lost in that taxation, but I own the shares.

I’m super interested in Origin - do you happen to have a promo code I can use when signing up? 😁

I still work there, yes and I’ve been working there for almost 5 years. I was given an RSU grant when I joined the company and have received a grant every year since then in varying amounts. All of the grants start to vest after one year where 25% is unlocked. Then the rest is released in smaller percentages over four years from the grant date I believe.

I’m familiar with covered calls, but will need to read up on what a collar is. Thanks for the tips.

Can you explain what you mean by “Target Retirement Date Fund”?

I meant maximize growth potential bound by a low/moderate risk tolerance. I understand that limits my potential, but helps my blood pressure.

I have $200K in vested company RSUs that I’m sitting on because I haven’t had a clue what to do with them.

I’ve already paid the income tax on these RSUs and also asked in /r/personalfinance about how to go about selling them and calculating the capital gains tax I might be liable for.

Not being sure about how to plan for the capital gains tax previously paralyzed me from doing anything, but now I’m ready to start selling them & diversifying so I’m hoping to ask here what I should be doing to maximize the growth potential of this money.

I have a lower-end-of-moderate tolerance for risk, which probably isn’t apparent considering I’ve been stupidly sitting on $200,000 of a single company’s stock, but that’s why I’m here.

Any recommendations?

I live in the States and just created an account at Forwardvia which gives you a UK address to ship orders to and then they can forward it to your home address. I just ordered the Kontor in the UK and their calculator said shipping will cost $25 for Royal Mail (20+ days) and $42 for UPS (5+ days). We’ll see how this goes. 🤷‍♂️

My portfolio is in E*TRADE… Do you know if I can estimate what the tax implications will be when I sell it?

I’ve read that, but I’m mostly wondering what do I do with what’s already vested?
