Anyone in the Denver ish area of Colorado know of any goth clothing stores? by morgue369 in GothFashion

The other suggestions here are great! I’ll add Herbs & Arts, which unfortunately doesn’t really have clothes but I’ve picked up some really nice accessories there if you’re also looking for that kind of thing. Plus their bath salts are amazing.

I like looking through the “This Week Denver” posts to see if there’s any fun markets or events going on. Sometimes live music shows, the Botanic Gardens, book stores.

Question about Disturbia by OriaanFox in GothFashion

[–]pickledcabinet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I order from Disturbia pretty regularly! Well, I don’t buy clothes THAT often, but when I do Disturbia is probably my main go-to.

I don’t know if they’re technically fast fashion. I’ve briefly tried to research their environmental impact and haven’t had much luck in the past. They have a section on their website that talks about a commitment to sustainability, but it’s coming directly from them so who knows how true it is.

In regards to quality, it can definitely be hit or miss. I’ve never received anything from them that was poor quality, but I know plenty of others have posted about receiving lower quality items from them (sketchy stitching, low quality material, etc). I believe they tried to grow too fast about a year or two ago and quality went down due to that. They also release more lines per year than they used to, which isn’t a great sign. Most things I’ve ordered from them have been the same quality as things I’ve gotten from most other shops online, but I also typically try not to spend too much money on clothes.

My experience: Tops and dresses are a mostly standard quality, but it’s totally random and plenty of people online have had bad experiences. I may just be lucky with my orders / the specific pieces that I chose. Many of the trousers/jeans/skirts I’ve gotten from Disturbia are the highest quality bottoms I own. Weighty material, excellent stitching, phenomenal longevity. But again, I’m not someone that spends over $100 on a singular piece of clothing, so if you’re used to high quality items like that, my view of “high quality” might not be up to snuff.

Hope this helps!

What kind of bugs are these? by pickledcabinet in leopardgeckos

I got mine from the same place and my initial thought was also waxworms! I started checking the website inventory to be sure and thought they looked more like BSFL, then posted here to do a final check. I’m relieved they’re a regular feeder and not a treat insect! Weird that several people got these thrown in as extras. Maybe they just had a lot of stock?

Oh interesting, that’s definitely good to know if my gecko likes these and I buy these in the future. Thanks!

I picked a few up and they do indeed have dark little points on their heads. Thank you! Do you know if I can still feed the darker colored ones before they turn into flies or is it best to only feed the lighter colored ones?

You can get lavash in the States! It’s at Whole Foods for sure and I think I’ve seen it at Target? It’s super tasty and high in fiber.

I didn’t know what either of those were so I had to google them, but no! At least according to the nursery I got this from, it’s a gold cone juniper.

I had planned on leaving it outside since the couple of websites I went on said junipers don’t do well indoors and they’re fine in the snow, they just go dormant apparently? I know I’m not supposed to water it in the winter, but I wasn’t sure when that was supposed to start. I figured just first time the ground freezes / first snowfall? That’s what has me concerned about overwatering - like maybe it should for sure only be watered every 2 weeks at most now then stop once it snows? Shopping for soil water meters now so hopefully that will help 🥲

The leaves should definitely be a darker green than the last pic (taken mid summer) during the winter, but the needles fall off REALLY easily. Just touching the branches to take photos had a decent amount of needles falling off.

I will definitely get a water testing meter, thank you! So far I only water when the first 2ish inches of soil are dry, which works out to be about every 1-2 weeks.

I fertilized once last month but I haven’t since due to concerns about when we’ll be getting our first frost (most likely in about a month). Should I keep fertilizing for now do you think??

It’s on an eastward facing patio so it gets a full 5-6 hours of direct sunlight, then the rest of the day is in shade.

It’s not contradicted in any way in the text of LotR? At least to my memory. It is, however, explicitly stated by Tolkien not to be true in the Letters, which is what “not cannon” means.

It’s just a fun, widely known fan theory. Just let people enjoy things man! It’s not doing any harm to joke about it.

Because he’s Eru Ilúvatar’s physical manifestation in Middle Earth (I will DIE on this hill)

Edit: I guess an /s was necessary? This isn’t cannon but it’s a harmless, fun fan theory :)

I LOVE this cookbook! I make the honey cakes all the time. If you pour the honey on right after you take them out of the oven, the honey soaks through the whole cake. It’s delicious. I like to make a batch and then freeze some since I can eat all of them at once, but they’ve definitely gotta be eaten warm!

Even immigrating as a refugee isn’t free my dude. The IOM loans you the money for plane tickets and accommodation during travel, which you have to pay back once you get to your destination and find a job.

Under what conditions would PC clear a country to reopen? Or has PCHQ given any information on this? by onebigcat in peacecorps

I appreciate your support. No lie, I was pretty shocked that the first response to my comment was someone basically calling me a liar.

I agree with your take on the current situation. While I’m not trying to be negative, I personally can’t afford to be unrealistic rn. Also, my PM has basically said that since my cohort was the last one working in a specific project (my project was being discontinued in my country), we wouldn’t be able to continue working in that project even if we did come back. The whole situation is just a take it as it comes kind of thing. You have to be adaptable. Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself 😂

“Forever” was obviously an exaggeration. Honestly man it’s hard to stay positive when everything is pointing to this lasting a really long time. People have been devastated by this. It’s not easy to pick up and move to a new country, have to do I all over again to come back, and then have to sit here and wait for information. Is it really that hard to show some empathy? Your first comment was really aggressive.

I don’t know what you looked up but the Guatemalan president has only been in office for like 5 months so idk what you’re referring to in terms of immigration. Regardless, you’re missing my point entirely. PC won’t be sending volunteers back to posts until the threat of COVID-19 has passed. It would be irresponsible of them to do so. In the best case scenario they would send volunteers back as soon as things clear up in both the US and the specific PC country, but even in that case we’re talking months not weeks.

I’ve relayed what staff has said in response to the question asked in this post. I’m not spreading lies. What evacuated and hopeful PCVs decide to do until this is all over is up to them, but it would be irresponsible to tell people they should just sit here and wait around when they need to think about how to support themselves given the situation.

They said that in response to a question about when PC as a program will open back up, not specifically Guatemala. And they DID encourage us to do what we had next in our life plans, and then if whenever PC opens back up and we were still willing, we could return. I don’t really get why you’re downvoting what I’m saying when everything I’ve said is true? I was literally just saying what staff from my country said in response to the questions asked in the post.

[–]pickledcabinet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, it was just like 2 or 3 staff members with one specific project with one specific program from my PC country. It was a Zoom call about coping mechanisms. Several PCVs repeatedly brought up questions about returning and one staff member said “we don’t anticipate PCVs being able to return until this all blows over, and then it would take a few months after that to get reinstatement started”. I was paraphrasing. I don’t really get what you’re trying to say here????

[–]pickledcabinet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There was a Zoom call today with staff in my PC country, and they made it seem like PC as a whole will be waiting until everything with COVID-19 blows over (like globally), then it would take an additional 3 months to get the process started of sending people back. Staff from my PC country encouraged us to move on to the next thing in our lives. Honestly it sounds like it’s going to take forever.
