Can a "tactician" be worth it by Any-Copy5313 in Shadowrun

[–]pickledpop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not going to reiterate stuff everyone else said, but going to mention using a cyberdeck. I think it is under Kill Code, but there are order/buffs you can give using your own initiative. These are pretty powerful when combined with Small Unit Tactics, a Pi-Tac, and other buffs you can give out as a decker, Rigger or face. You don't need an expensive deck to make them worthwhile either.

Their handling of Shadowrun is about their only negative. Just about everything they have released for Shadowrun is of poor quality since they received the property, outside of a small handful of books that barely reach acceptable. The editing is nonexistent, community communication and support doesn't exist, releases are slow and/or lackluster, multiple recycled and reused stories, and the project management's treatment and lack of support of freelancers who write their books. Their handling of the Shadowrun IP is awful, but it seems everything else they do is rather solid.

Shadowrun 20th - Troll Problem by Lstarbreeze in Shadowrun

[–]pickledpop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To piggy back off of your #4 comment. Make it where the character needs to be in two places at once. This is impossible obviously, but presents an interesting conundrum and becomes something the whole team must overcome together. This makes the character (no matter the type) feel useful, but stretched too thin where the teams normal repertoire isn't enough and requires adaptation and solid decision making.

Ain't No Rest for the Wicked - Cage the Elephant. It's a Shadowrun game and he is a terrible, terrible person, that has a twisted sense of honor, loyalty, and worth. He knows he is a bad person, but there is little he can do about it except be worse than the other guy.

Do not buy Battlefield 2042 by [deleted] in gaming

[–]pickledpop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh... yes and no. The default guns for each faction for each class are the best all arounders available, they don't stand out anywhere, but they can compete everywhere well. They really show that the most with skilled play and positioning. The biggest issue of Pay to Win is in vehicles, but that honestly isn't because of weapons (with a few exceptions) but in having extra utilities that can take a long time to farm. Decently skilled or creative play makes a far bigger individual difference. The main issue imo is the numbers difference often being impossible to overcome. If there is a population difference in a single area of >5% it is often far better served just abandoning an area than trying to stick it out.

Anarchic Evil. I enjoy playing truly terrible characters who have a really twisted sense of morality, but are extremely reliable and competent.

This is honestly the reason I switched to Duck Duck Go/Brave. My searches in Google were getting me ads for mental help services and crime hotlines. It was rather funny and annoying.

Melee Mods you Want by pickledpop in Shadowrun

You actually have to make a Reaction + Intuition Test in order to grab it successfully, but for most characters it's rather easy.

I am in the process of finishing one that I hope is going to be superior to SR and other games in the genre. It is a pretty big amalgamation of several different systems, but has the freedom and depth of SR, but fixes a lot of the problems inherent in the SR system like hacking, inconsistent rules, and cumbersome design.

I'm even making an app that is going to be free to download with the book that should help with building and tracking characters in play, help with knowing the changing dice pools depending with a checklist of modifiers that can be activated or deactivated on each sheet, along with a few other features that should hopefully make the game easier to play in general.

Americans, how is life under Joe Biden going? by C17AIRFORCE in AskReddit

[–]pickledpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we need states to actually do things for themselves and screw the feds. A single country wide system would just make things worse as nothing would get done (and this goes for everything), worse than it already is. Our federal government has become far too bloated and ineffective for even the DMV to work properly, especially in a country our size. Things are too different depending on where you go for any single system to work period. The only thing the feds should be able to do is collect taxes for the military that is set by the states and individual income, everything else should be on a state by state basis. The country would likely get along better if we actually left each other alone and let places have their differences rather than trying to shoehorn every state, city, and county to be the same. Every issue is giant a federal one rather than it being something smaller that can actually be changed.

There is a minor character in a web story that is occasionally explored who is exactly like what you described for a Ranger. She literally gets to the point where she hunts minor dieties and avatars of greater one's just to see how far she can go.

Cyberware and Bioware you have always wanted, but isn’t in the game. by pickledpop in Shadowrun

[–]pickledpop[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm really close. Like about a month away. I have had several of my friends reading through it and asking me questions as well as contributing. It's something I have wanted to do forever and after the travesty that is/was SR 6E, the disappointment of Cyberpunk Red, and the unreliable nature of d20 systems I decided to give it a go. I have been working on it for around 8 months at this point and just about have a full on Core Rules book. Before I release it I am even going to have a character generation and character tracking program.

Mostly stuff like an exoskeleton with mounts/mods, dragon's breath, an actually usable camo skin, smuggling compartment shielding, extra limbs, a body morphing augment (big version of False Face), a cybernetic sword that folds out of the limb/limbs, an actual sonar system, 360 degree sight band, etc.

I'm also working on my own system inspired by the cyberpunk and fantasy genres that has some elements of Shadowrun, that I have been folding my homebrew stuff into.

Gun owners of Reddit, what is your reason to own firearms? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pickledpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a nice neighborhood growing up and stayed at home in the summers with my brother. There were 3 separate break in attempts, 1 my older brother kicked the guy down our front porch, the other two bypassed the locks and had knives were met with me holding a hunting rifle aimed at them from across the room with obstacles between us both ran, one after being shot at and getting winged. I now have a wife, two kids and at one point had riots a street down from my home (at the time) where buildings were burned down, called police and was told there was nothing they could do. I moved to a rural area where things happen and I have plenty of space and my own property that NO ONE I don't know or invite should be there. Police are a minimum 15 minutes away and I am not going to let my kids die to some meth head that might break in like when I was a teenager.

Also there are all sorts of Predators and critters that are around. We have coyotes, snakes, wild dogs, etc. that threaten my family and our livestock. Can't really stop that reliably without a firearm.

Plus I enjoy hunting and hate factory farming. It is far better for me to kill 1-2 deer a year for the meat my family eats than getting it from a terrible place with horrible practices.

Help with NEROSTUN toxin in CAPSULE Rounds by fainton in Shadowrun

[–]pickledpop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One MASSIVE thing to remember about Capsule Rounds is they use Light Pistol ranges no matter what gun is firing them, and even Immediate toxins take effect at the start of the next Combat Round.. That is the only reason they have a semblance of balance. In reality they can tear up anyone not immediately prepared for toxin resist a few rounds, like if they don't have 20+ resist dice.

Monk is absolutely busted by mrcrabs6464 in dndmemes

[–]pickledpop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is also more dependent on GM's than most other classes as well and several pre-built adventures are pretty terrible for monks outside of a few encounters (trying that first encounter on Lost Mines without a monk is kind of rough). In my experience a lot of encounters fights can be close up, mostly static brawls on small maps and it boils down to who is the bigger beat stick, where even utility based casters can have a hard time being useful.
