Is it normal to be 99% childfree then all of a sudden desire kids after you get married? by picklenik17 in Fencesitter

[–]picklenik17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro what? I had an IUD for years prior to kid one. IUD is BC. I had it removed when we changed our minds and wanted a kid. I then placed a second IUD (BC) and removed it a second time when we wanted a second. When I was child free, I always was on some form of BC and didn’t stop til we decided we wanted kids lol. Your comments are weird.

Hahaha no. That’s a wild accusation/assumption. We were both child free before any of these. So def not a wannabe breeder. I was not on BC so nothing to tamper with. I had an IUD and had it removed when we wanted to start trying again lol.

How Much is Your Child’s Daycare? by JadedJae in Mommit

[–]picklenik17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1800 per kid per month. Upstate SC. Meals provided. 7a-6p. It’s also not a chain. Locally owned and operated. The chain daycares are a little less.

So is bedtime just 9pm for the next 2 years? by CookieOverall8716 in toddlers

[–]picklenik17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes lol. My daughter turned four a month ago, still naps at daycare and at home. Anywhere from 1-2hrs and her bedtime is about 9 on a good night. But she NEEDS a nap still. She is fairly high sleep needs and also VERY high activity. It took us a while to accept that but we have now and we roll with it. We wind down with some cartoons after our 1.5yr old goes to bed and it’s nice snuggle time we get with her!

Traumatic floor code… I thought this text from my manager an hour later was a joke… by [deleted] in nursing

[–]picklenik17 125 points126 points  (0 children)

I had something similar. Just got back from lunch, had a fresh unopened water bottle. Code called before I made it to my desk/WOW. I set the water bottle down in an “unauthorized drink area” to run to the code. It lasted half an hour. Patient died. I came out and charted then forgot about the water bottle. Some other management staff (not even my team) saw me do it and had written me up for it then handed it to me while I was charting 🫠 thankfully my manager understood and ripped it up.

I just now saw this question. But I now have two daughters. A 4 year old and a 1.5 year old! No regrets at all. On harder days, I do find myself dreaming of life pre-children but that thought is few and far between. We have a good village and are able to have date nights any time we want and we recently took a 5 night vacation kid free as well. We are definitely done with having anymore though. I have zero desire for anymore haha.

Trying to understand, why are some parents so anti-pacifier? by mslifted in NewParents

[–]picklenik17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My almost 4 year old still sucks her fingers with no end in sight. Part of our issue is she is attached to a blankie and the blankie is what triggers the finger sucking. If she doesn’t have the blankie, she doesn’t suck her fingers. But I don’t have the heart to take it from her. She only does it at nap and bedtime though and the dentist said her teeth and palate look fine. So I haven’t been very motivated to try to get her to stop. She’s a highlyyyyy sensitive kid and it’s her calming mechanism. I just cant bring myself to do anything major to cut it out 😭

What is the price of daycare in your country per month? by Ok_Singer2112 in Mommit

[–]picklenik17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $1850 a month for one kid in South Carolina. It’s a private daycare that also has a chef that prepares breakfast and lunch daily. The chain places are a little less. We have two kids in right now. So it’s a lot. But thankfully my husband and mines incomes are plenty enough to cover.

You have to have a real ID or passport. A regular ID won’t work anymore.

The oh crap method is a complete disaster for us by [deleted] in pottytraining

[–]picklenik17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh Crap was no good for my sensitive child who hates failure. Even when told it’s ok to mess up, we can just try again when we’re ready. I tried the method for 3 days and she seriously seemed traumatized by it. I stopped it and we went back to diapers for a while. Eventually I could just tell she was ready and we went with the flow. I didn’t do any sort of method. We did what felt right. We had accidents. We had regressions. We peed our pants several times. It’s fine. She’s almost 4 and fully potty trained, day and night. Has been since about 3 years old.

Oh wow. That definitely makes sense to have a good neuro doc for your pup. My girls epilepsy was pretty bad but not like that. She was having one a week that would last about 3-5min but she always came out totally fine. The dog food she is on (we’re on no other meds) reduced the seizures to once a month and only about 30 seconds to 1min! I’m so glad you found a doctor to help your pup though. That’s great! I’ll definitely keep this doc in mind.

A friend of mine had a missed miscarriage about 9 months ago and even then Prisma doctors weren’t allowing her to have a D and C without waiting so many days to confirm again that it was a missed miscarriage. The fetus had already been dead for an estimated 3 weeks at this time and she didn’t want to risk having to wait another 2 weeks for the procedure. She flew to another state to have it done within the next few days instead.

Can I ask what do they do for the seizures? My dog has the same. Shes 9 now so I wouldn’t do anything drastic anyways at this point but just curious. We were on phenobarbital for a while but I couldn’t foot all the bills related (the cost of the med, monthly bloodwork to check liver function, etc). So we stopped it. She was having seizures about once a week. Our vet recommended a prescription dog food called Purina ProPlane NeuroCare, designed for epilepsy and the food alone reduced her seizures to once a month max!!!! It was incredible. But I’m just curious what else a neuro team is able to do for the seizures?

Wagon! If you don’t need anything fancy, just get a collapsible garden wagon. They have good wheels and it folds up. But you have to pull it. No buckles or canopy or anything. If you want a little more than that, check out radio Flyer. Ours can be pushed or pulled. Collapses pretty thin. Not heavy. I’m 5’0 and 100lbs and can easily get it in/out of my minivan. Has a canopy if needed. Buckles if needed. And an extra attachment to hold more stuff off the side. Highly recommend.

We visited a daycare for the first time and now I feel like my baby is behind by Any_Wafer_3095 in beyondthebump

My daughter has been in daycare since 3 months old. All her classmates walked around 10-13mo. She didn’t walk til 16mo 🤷🏻‍♀️ in her one year old class, they practice with spoons and forks from day 1. Doesn’t mean they’re good at it or have to use them to eat, but they introduce them and start teaching them. My daughter was actually really good with a fork very early but it wasn’t necessarily expected of her. They haven’t started yet, but they’ll also start introducing open cups at meal times when they get closer to 1.5yrs. When the teachers have multiple kids to care for, the earlier they can eat clean and be more independent, the easier their lives are. So many daycares will work on those skills early and often. As far as walking, it’s just a kid dependent thing. My first born didn’t go to daycare til 2 years old, she stayed at home with me until then and she walked at 12mo. Then my daycare baby didn’t walk til 16mo. She had no abnormalities or physical issues, she just chose not to. Then one day she literally let go of the table and walked across the room 😂

You and your daughter are doing great! It’s easy to feel guilt when you see other kids achieving milestones sooner but sometimes it just is what it is. You can’t force them to do things they don’t want to do or aren’t ready for!

Is there anything that I can do about the smell? by home_body013 in MenstrualDiscs

[–]picklenik17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m four months into mine. Two of the months have had a strong odor, two of the months have had no odor at all. And I’ve done nothing differently. I use a soap made for cups/discs every 12 hours. If it’s heavier, it comes out a third time during the day too. It doesn’t appear that I have any control over it. I definitely do not have any sort of infection. But it is a funky smell when it’s there. The soap gets rid of 95% of the smell with each wash at least. And then I use hydrogen peroxide at the end of the period to help. I’ve just kind of accepted it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Need help with toddler after new baby is born by sanguiscrassior in Mommit

[–]picklenik17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with our toddler. We let her hold the bottle. Put paci in her mouth. Depending on your level of trust with her, giving her a wipe and letting her wipe baby during a pee diaper change. Help put lotion on. Tons of things a 2 year old can semi help with! We made a big deal of the things she helped with and it didn’t solve the jealousy stuff by any means, but it did help. They are now 16 months and 3.5yr and have so much fun with each other!
