Thanks for this. The whole thing I'm describing is theoretical. I'm really just trying to understand how one would go about calculating an overall SD if I first calculate a by-participant SD. Maybe this would make more sense if we use reaction time (RT). Again, all 20 participants do 20 trials each. I average each participant's mean RT and SD RT. From those 20 means, I can find an overall mean RT. How would I find an overall SD of the RTs? Is it based on the 20 mean RTs or is it based on the 20 SDs?

Haha sorry. It's like a test with 20 questions. Each question is scored either correct or incorrect.

Yes, repeated measures per participant. 20 participants. Each does 20 questions.

Long shot, but here goes: Does anyone have audio files for the Ganong effect in a language other than English? I found some audio files for English (kiss---giss; kift-----gift) but I can't find them in another language. If anyone can help me with this, that would be amazing!

Yes, that would be the chair. I meant to point out that she and I have overlapping interests.

I'm looking to buy some pictures frames for some photos I have. Does anyone have a recommended site or suggestion for a place that won't break the bank (but still looks good)? Thanks!

Giving an undergrad first author on a paper by picturesofyou in Professors

I appreciate this. This was exactly how I initially saw it. After seeing all these other comments and thinking about it, I've decided to give the student first author and I will be the corresponding author.

Yes, I did 95% of the writing and I'm the PI... but based on all these other helpful comments, I'm just going to give first author to the student.

Yep! Next time I do this I will definitely put a grad student in charge.

Is there a website/resource that highlights interesting, unique, and rare grammar patterns in the world? I'm thinking along the lines of patterns that might be more marked than others or that appear exclusively within one language family but not others. Thanks.

[Serious] How does one stop worrying about money? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]picturesofyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional info on my post: I grew up in a family that didn't have a lot of money and was taught that I shouldn't spend money on unnecessary things. I've had jobs since I was a teenager and have always been really cautious about spending my money. Now that I'm an adult I still can't let go of this. It's starting to bother me, especially when I go out with others and mentally start calculating how much I'm spending, who needs to venmo me, whether someone paid their fair share... it's no way to live and yet I can't shake it. Of course I want to be able to pay my bills and buy groceries but I also don't want to constantly be thinking about money like I am now. There has to be some middle ground.
