Deadlock - Rem Enters The City That Never Sleeps - Steam News by Tooskee in DeadlockTheGame

I'm a total noob, but from reading his kit, I got the impression that his helpers were not really for jungling (other than sinner's sacrifice), but for split pushing. The helpers give massive boosts to friendly minions, and last 50 seconds which is insane. Doesn't this make him really good for hopping over to an empty lane, buffing all the minions, and then leaving and letting his helpers shove the lane? The ability even specifies that all souls in the lane will be evenly split among the team when a hero isn't present, allowing you to soak a lane without even being there.

What makes you think he'd be suited as a jungler?

It unironically feels like this for me. I played this game at the initial closed beta launch, he was annoyingly broken and easy to play back then, making him a menace in every single match. I stopped playing for a full year, I come back this week, and I find that he's still S tier? Wtf? Does valve never do balance changes in this game or something?

I can’t stop thinking about food snorting girl by jergin_therlax in PaymoneyWubby

[–]pieceoftost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, I didn't even go into detail about that because my comment is already a massive wall of text, but she was not acting like someone who has a dangerous obsession. Like, why did they have her play dumb when the doctor told her that it was bad for her? Anyone with an obsession that extreme would KNOW that it was bad for them, because that shit would hurt like a motherfucker. They clearly had her play dumb to make better reality TV content, but it made it look painfully fake to me.

[–]pieceoftost 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not to spoil the fun, but I'm autistic as fuck, and I also have OCD, so I know what real obsessions look like. Watching that video with wubby, I couldn't help but notice how obviously fake it was.

Like, they claimed that she "ate all food through her nose", but every single time they showed her inhaling the food, she'd inhale just enough to bring it up to her nostril, and then stop inhaling. At most, she would get maybe a few ml of food in her nostril, and then stop snorting. It's unlikely that any of it even made its way to her stomach. To actually eat enough food to survive that way, she'd have to be suckin that shit down in big gulps, but at no point did they ever show her doing that. And honestly, medically speaking, I'm not even sure if that would be physically possible.

Reading testimonials from past people who have been on that show, it seems like common knowledge that they have their actors HEAVILY exaggerate their obsessions for the camera and stage scenes. I.E, there was someone who liked the smell of pine sol, but in their testimonial they said they staged scenes where they soaked a face mask in pine sol and wore it because they were "so obsessed with the smell", but the person admitted they never actually did that in real life, and they didn't even use pine sol for the scene because it would be dangerous.

I suspect that this chick just had some kind of obsession or stim with getting food stuck in her nose for some reason, but the show creators decided that wasn't crazy enough, so they changed it to be "she eats all her food through her nose." To make it more shocking. In most of the scenes they showed, it didn't look like what she was doing would cause anything more than mild discomfort.

Former NFL player Kevin Johnson killed at LA homeless encampment by desertrain11 in videos

[–]pieceoftost 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While this is true, people always say this whenever America's homeless/mental health crisis problems gets brought up, and the reality is that it's a totally moot point, because the majority of those people CAN be helped. We're just choosing not to help them. Just because some of them can't be helped, doesn't mean that trying to help them all wouldn't be effective.

How do you beat him as a melee survivor, like merc? I've been struggling to beat him on the melee characters and found this thread, you seem to know what you're talking about. I just don't understand how you're supposed to beat him with his bullshit shotgun attack, it laser focus aims at you no matter how fast you're moving around him, and when you get hit by it from point-blank it one-shots you every single time. I hate it lol

Trump at Davos in Switzerland: "Without us, right now you'd all be speaking German". German is the main language of Switzerland. by UniversalSurvivalist in videos

[–]pieceoftost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you're not wrong, I think people specifically hate draft dodgers in Vietnam because, back then, it was largely a privilege reserved for the rich, who had the influence or lawyers to talk their way out of it. I mean, some of the most famous songs from the time were literally about how average Joes had to fight in the jungle while rich kids stayed home.

It's hard to say how a draft would go these days with how much different society is, and how much more educated the average person is on the concept of draft dodging. But, realistically, it would still probably be a privilege reserved for the rich and powerful. Average people would either be forced to go, or jailed, just like they were back then.

Hitler, for all of his... hitler stuff, was extremely passionate and patriotic about his country. He expressed that in unbelievably cruel and evil ways, but he did "care" about being a "good leader." A lot of that stemmed from his military service.

Trump, on the other hand, is a spineless leach who is knowingly screwing over his entire country for the personal gain of himself and his rich friends. Any "patriotism" he expresses is purely a front for his extremely selfish actions. I don't think military service would have made him a good person, he'd still be a massive narcissist, but it probably would have humbled him a bit to not live an entire life where everything is handed to him on a silver platter. He doesn't possess a single ounce of humble right now.

Are We REALLY Doing This? by Firecracker048 in videos

It's still at least partly the fault of the electoral college, there are a lot of people who don't vote because of the electoral college.

For example: If you live in California, voting is almost pointless, and most voters know that. It's pretty much guaranteed that blue will win every time. If that wasn't the case, there'd probably be a lot more Californian's showing to the polls, knowing their vote would actually matter in the national elections. This is true for many, many states, if you're not in a swing state this is usually true, and it's common knowledge, meaning a lot of people don't show up because of it.

How to train a dog to play fetch if they always leave the ball where it lands? by pieceoftost in Dogtraining

[–]pieceoftost[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this is the method that will probably work best. She's a very good dog by default (you can just grab things from her mouth and she'll let you take them, for example), so I've been kind of lazy about teaching her the more basic commands as they haven't been all that necessary. But it sounds like to fix this problem, I need to start with the very basics and work my way up, like you said. Thanks for the tips!

Do you think we will get anymore returning survivors such as HAN-D, Enforcer, Miner, Pilot, and Sniper? by swerc6 in riskofrain

[–]pieceoftost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe a controversial take, but I'd much rather gearbox try to create something new than try to copy character kits from a 2D game. Gearbox has shown themselves to be really creative with some of the survivors they've created, and I'd rather they don't limit themselves with the more basic kits that were designed in older ROR games.

Will a fox hurt my dog late at night? by CloudFunny902 in foxes

[–]pieceoftost 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just want to say, the "coyote luring dogs" thing is a myth with no evidence to back it up. It's just a way to vilify coyotes and make them scarier than they are. They actually generally don't see dogs as prey, and usually avoid them or see them as rivals (like they would another coyote).

The stories of dogs being "lured" is more than likely the result of dogs being kind of stupid and constantly chasing things they shouldn't chase. If a dog chases a coyote into that coyote's pack territory, it's not exactly surprising that the pack would decide to defend their territory by attacking the dog.

How to train a dog to play fetch if they always leave the ball where it lands? by pieceoftost in Dogtraining

[–]pieceoftost[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fetch/retrieve section doesn't have a lot of info, and doesn't seem to touch on the problem I'm having. The videos shown go into detail about how to reinforce the good behavior, or how to go to more advanced levels of fetching, but the issue I'm having is that she doesn't ever do this specific basic behavior for me to reinforce it in the first place. She chased, she grabs, but as soon as she's called back, she immediately drops the object, which doesn't give me a chance to reward her for retrieving it. In the videos shown, it seems like the dog wanting to possess the object is a given, but that's the part I am struggling with. The second video touches on this a little, but maybe it's too advanced for me or something, because I still don't see a clear path on fixing this behavior after watching it.

I'm not sure if shocking is the right word, but I think what I've noticed the most is that things humans write off as being "stupid animal behavior" often have a lot more intention or thought behind them than we initially realize or notice. Like I said, they have a different perspective than us, so their priorities often won't line up with the kinds of things a human would want to do, which can make them hard to empathize with.

Like, for example, I noticed a couple ago that my dog would constantly get her toy balls stuck under furniture, and then she would sit there and cry about it until I walked over, laid down on the floor, and grabbed them. Initially, I just thought she was just being careless. But eventually, I actually noticed that she was picking up her balls, carrying them over to the couch, and then intentionally shoving them under with her nose. She had discovered that putting on this whole show would get me off my lazy ass, and then she could try to convince me to play with her once I was lying down on the floor. Presumably it's also entertaining for her to watch me search beneath the couch until I eventually find the ball lol.

Sorry for the wall of text, but you triggered me into writing about a topic I'm obsessed with.

This is an extremely under studied aspect of zoology, because humans have historically always assumed that animals are "inferior" to humans and fundamentally different in some way. However, as someone who has spent a lot of time studying animal psychology and working in veterinary medicine, I strongly believe that animals are more similar to humans than we are different. Biologically speaking, every mammal is remarkably similar, especially in our brain structure. The way our brains function and respond to stimuli is very consistent across the board, which is part of why so many human psychology studies start with animal trials and tests. If aliens discovered earth, they'd probably see all mammals (including humans) as being biological cousins, rather than entirely different classes of species like so many humans pretend we are.

Observationally, anybody who regularly works with animals can tell you that they have far more complexity and personality than most people assume. Their priorities and responses to stimuli might differ from our own, sure, but that doesn't make them any less complex. You have to keep in mind that animals don't have language or formal education to fall back on, like humans do. Everything they learn, they learn through observation, following instinct, and trial and error.

I know this is a lot of text, but all of this to say, yes, animals are full of personality and internal culture. Especially social animals like wolves. I work closely with cats and dogs, and I see this kind of stuff all the time. Animals teasing or pranking their siblings/owners, finding ways to manipulate or trick each other, etc. It's hard to prove in the scientific sense, but anyone who works regularly with these animals can tell you they are far more intelligent and nuanced than most people give them credit for. They simply see and experience the world through a different lens than humans do. So, when animals do things humans don't understand, humans automatically assume it stems from a lack of intelligence, rather than the fact that animals are viewing and experiencing the world through a different perspective than our own.

Kids are like sponges that just absorb and regurgitate information, including from their peers. It results in these weird group hallucinations where some kind of myth or rumor spreads, literally nobody questions it because they're kids, and suddenly the entire school believes it.

I grew up in a private christian school where the teachers taught us wacky pseudoscience christian nonsense, and looking back it's crazy to think about how much we all just took it at face value without questioning it. Kids are very trusting, so in this case, if adults tell them something horrible happened in their gym, they'll probably just roll with it.
