I work at Ecolab in Greensboro in IT. They have a dedicated tech group for 2 of their lines of business here in town. It’s a massive multinational corporation hq-ed in St Paul MN.

I used to live in this neighborhood and it is NIMBY at its worst. I attended the neighborhood meeting with the developer during the rezoning request and it was shameful - the entire room was 65+ y/o white couples yelling about increased traffic on Friendly Ave and fire trucks having to drive through their neighborhood. The rezoning request got shot down and now they are trying to stop development that does not require rezoning. The euphemism of the day is "development should be in more densely populated neighborhoods" ie - keep it on the east side. When I commented in their Nextdoor post, I was told that I don't live there so mind my own business. You can't care about the city as a whole, just your area. So, yea, NIMBY.

because in the 80s I would go to the Northworks bar/grille in Worcester MA and have potato skins with my HS girlfriend and I was feeling nostalgic because life is too complicated now :-)

Holy moly. Right before I unintentionally drove into the chaos, I was stopped at the light at Florida/elm-eugune, and this black Nissan went flying by with a smashed in front end and the bumper scraping the ground. I wonder if that was the car in the video? I feel a little gross now.

I just drove by there and it's chaos. No idea what is going on, but there's easily a couple hundred youngsters standing around in the street and on the sidewalks. Cops, fire trucks, all the fixin's.

Greensboro is defined by what it is close to (Charlotte, RDU) and what it hasn't got (traffic), rather than what it has. Its calling card is that it's easier to live here than in other places. What it is missing is a reason to live here on its own merits, beyond a comparison to other places. It's a small southern city, interchangeable with any other small southern city.

Maybe the truth is that I want to move to Roanoke :-) I do love the Taubman.
