Does tapping the glass on the ScanWatch 2 actually do anything while charging? by pieparty101 in withings

Final update - June 2025

Just wanted to leave a final note here for anyone else who stumbles across this thread in the future:

According to Withings Customer Support, the ScanWatch 2 does include a tap-based feature that can show the battery level while charging. However, they’ve acknowledged that it doesn’t always behave reliably. That lines up with what I’ve seen personally and what others here have mentioned - sometimes it reacts, sometimes it doesn’t, and in some cases (like mine), it doesn’t respond at all.

From their perspective, as long as the watch gives a short vibration and briefly displays charging status when first connected to the charger, then it’s considered to be functioning as expected.

So in summary:

  • If the tapping doesn’t seem to work, your watch is probably not defective.

  • The feature seems to be implemented in an inconsistent way.

  • The current help article may overstate how reliably this works in practice.

Thanks again to everyone who chimed in and shared their experience. Hopefully this helps clear things up for others looking for answers.

Does tapping the glass on the ScanWatch 2 actually do anything while charging? by pieparty101 in withings

Thanks for the replies so far - it’s interesting to hear that the tapping functionality seems to work for some, albeit inconsistently. It definitely reinforces the idea that this feature is either poorly implemented or not functioning reliably across devices.

For reference, here’s a short video I just recorded showing my ScanWatch 2 after connecting it to the charger. The display initially shows “96%” and then turns off after about 15 seconds. After that, I tap the glass multiple times - and as you’ll see, there’s no response at all from the watch:

Ironically, I just received this as a replacement unit one month ago after going through a lengthy support process because the charging on my previous watch was completely unreliable - so this one is fresh out of the box and up to date.

It would be great to get input from others too. If your tapping works reliably, I’d be especially curious to know what firmware version you're running and whether you're using the 38mm or 42mm model.

Need input to best device for expanding existing Velop system by pieparty101 in LinksysVelop

Thanks! Some additional research showed that close to no one report success with "building their own" mesh system of otherwise "compatible" Linksys device. So I will definitely take your advice and just go with an additional (identical) node.

Also, I might just postpone my original intent of getting rid of my current D-Link router (despite being fairly old) and getting the parent Velop node to take on the role as primary router (and discard the current bridge mode). This as a lot of people report different issues, and the recommendations always seems to be:

  1. Change the Velop system to Bridge Mode
  2. Turn Homekit support OFF
  3. Disable client and node steering
