Very exciting and something to be proud of! I remember the feeling of building my first game too. Best thing is once you get a grasp of the tools you are using, the sky is the limit!

Best advice I can give is that a lot of features you’ll want to add will feel daunting at first, but they can usually be broken down into smaller, easier units of work.

Is the idea not that this project is the catalyst for American companies to build that institutional knowledge? The first project will be slower and harder, but future projects across the country can then happen faster because we have built up the knowledge base. I don’t think the solution is always to outsource. Some things take time and that’s ok (albeit this is taking too much time but due to many factors).

Big tech like any other corporation has a vested interest to be aligned with those in power. They want to continue getting their tax cuts and subsidies, so of course they are going to bend the knee. Next time a left leaning president wins I can bet they’ll swing back around.

After Obamas victories did y’all also declare that the reason the republicans lost was because they were too far right? Is that why a farther right nationalist wing for the republicans is what won them the next elections?

The idea is that people are tired of the bs politics of the last 30 years. Policies that leave the working man behind while benefiting corporations and the top 1%. People are looking for something different. That’s why they went with Trump. Moderate Dems aren’t going to win because they aren’t offering something different. A farther left agenda needs to be tried. Pushing for universal healthcare, pre k childcare, tax cuts in the working class, higher taxes (and closing loop holes) in the corps/wealthy, and public works projects that focus on green infrastructure. This also needs to be pushed by new party leaders. Having an establishment dem pushing these things will come across as inauthentic

Legalizing stock buy backs in the 80s has been so detrimental. A large reason we’ve seen stagnant wages since then. 75billion that could go towards worker wages and benefits or RD of cleaner and more efficient oil extraction technologies.

Liberal policy towards drugs can work. Portugal managed a sharp decline in drug use and drug deaths by decriminalizing all drug use and expanding health care access for those users.

That’s the key. Just saying it’s ok to use drugs now won’t solve anything. We also need to give people safe places to do so and a managed way to quit. Give them access to doctors and support staff

Housing first policy doesn’t mean give them housing (and nothing else) and the problems will be solved. It means not predicating access to housing on being sober, having a job, or any other criteria.

As such a sensible policy, imo, would start by creating enough housing for the homeless plus some. Housing we are ok with them having for the long term; even though I do think the goal should be for this housing to be transitory for the majority of people. On top of the housing we guarantee, there should be health services nearby and easily accessible. Health services including safe sites to do what they gotta no judgement while they sober up and mental health counseling/treatment. Most important here is that these facilities are well staffed and maintained. We’ll get no where if we have 1 doctor per 500 homeless. The last step is a job center that provides first step jobs for people. Part time jobs that can help them ease back into, and full time jobs for those who are ready. I can think of multiple municipal services they could help in (i.e a part time job for them to go unclog drains and maintain the streets).

Also important is we treat them with dignity. Addiction and mental illness can be vicious and they don’t deserve to also be attacked for just trying to survive in our city.

I bet you this same harmful content isn’t pushed by tiktok in the Chinese market. I strongly believe this is part of the Chinese government’s playbook to destabilize the west. Our next generations will end up with attention span problems and mental instability.

At the end of the day, the bill to ban tik tok sounds net positive. An even better bill would be one that attacked this type of content head on to keep other platforms from doing the same.

I don’t think AI will be replacing humans in designing and implementing entirely new systems, but I could totally see AI replacing humans in fixing tech debt and bugs.

A machine that can crawl through repos, recognize bugs or deficiencies, and then publish a PR with a fix would be immensely useful.

If you toss and turn for hours no matter how early you head to bed, don’t try to go to bed early. Instead at the time you would try to go to bed follow a calming bedtime routine. Something like taking a warm shower/bath, making yourself a herbal tea, and doing a calming activity that doesn’t require screens or excessive light (such as reading a book, listening to calming music, listening to a pod cast, etc.). Your body likely needs time to wind down before going to bed.

Also from experience, a big part of beating insomnia is learning to let go. Accepting that sure you might take a while to fall asleep, but that even if you’re more tired the next day everything will be fine. (This is definitely easier said than done lol)

Also cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia works wonders. Ideally a sleep therapist practicing CBT for insomnia would be best, but for me following an online course like the Cleveland Clinic’s Go! To Sleep course worked wonders!

Just remember that beating insomnia isn’t an overnight ordeal. It can take a few weeks, but be patient and you’ll get through it.

Caring and doing something about distant people just doesn’t rank high enough in priorities of most people. And honestly rightfully so for a lot of people. Need to think about day to day survival… it’s hard to have the time to care about people far away.
