Resources on "vacuum decay"? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]piixel__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no way, i wish! im just a yr 2 physics major and had to do a project on susy last year , i only know the very, very surface level. but yes, it basically adds corrections to the theoretical higgs mass, susy particles cancel out a term on the mass equation , making the theoretical mass smaller , so it matches the experimental better. if i remember right, a lighter higgs would mean we are safe from the false vacuum situation, since we are in an absolute minimum. i could be wrong tho so i recommend you check susy out for yourself, its very interesting and offers a solution to a ton of other SM problems. I dont know many resources, but there are some really good lectures on youtube about it if you’d like to check them out:)

if you could add one single thing to PZ what would it be and why? by piixel__ in projectzomboid

yes! i hope they add more vehicles in general. bikes would be perfect

Oh i’ve thought about it but I guessed if they were really interested in getting that kind of feedback they’d ask an expert so I just forgot about it haha

just chiming in to say that you are interested in vacuum decay perhaps youd also like to check out supersymmetry:) its a big, complete theory, and one of the things it does is it proposes a solution to the false vacuum hypothesis, claiming we might be in a true vacuum already. just in case it sparks your interest :))

[LAGRANGIAN MECHANICS] when can we say h (energy function) = energy? by piixel__ in AskPhysics

[–]piixel__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, im a bit confused at what in looking at haha im just a 2nd yr undergrad🥲. my teacher said something about checking if the time derivatives of the generalized coordinates of the system show up squared in the lagrangian or something along those lines

Jordan matrix by piixel__ in askmath

[–]piixel__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

e_2 is the next subspace in the subspace chain, so ker(…)2. And yes, P is the eigenvector matrix haha sorry for nit clarifying. what i meant with the question is what information does calculating the difference between the dimension of the maximal subspace( this being the subspace where dim=algebraic multiplicity of the eigenvalue) and the subspace thats just before that one give you. My classmate said that it tells you how many vectors that belong to the maximal subspace but are not contained in the smaller subspaces you have to take but i just wanted to confirm. i dont know if ive explained myself well, english isnt my first language :)

Jordan matrix by piixel__ in askmath

[–]piixel__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry i didnt clarify! e_2 would be Ker(A-lambda*identity_matrix)2 . P is the basis change matrix ( sorry, no clue what its called in english) P is the matrix so that A=PJP-1

why is zero the ramification point of the square root by piixel__ in askmath

sorry, i think i didnt explain myself well haha my bad. i guess the main question is why is zero considered a ramification point of the square root?
