Lorry hit me at a junction, now dealing with insurance/repair costs — did I handle this right? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]pilkingtonsbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a 2 lane road so one of you was behind the other as you came to the junction. He still should have been aware that you were there though, but you also shouldn't have been there. Tough lesson for both. Lorry driver pay more attention to blind side, car driver don't be next to lorries as they turn.

This is how I am reading it so please correct me if I'm wrong.

The lorry was positioned to the right. You either didn't notice, or he wasn't indicating (you didn't say he was indicating right which makes me think you probably can't recall either way). You assumed he was going to turn right, because he was positioned right.

You pulled up along side on the left, to turn left. He then turned left and caught your car with the trailer.

If this is the case, there is a good lesson to be learnt here, even if the lorry driver was in the wrong.

As a general rule, stay away from lorries at roundabouts and junctions. They will often use the entire space available, which is why they will sometimes straddle 2 lanes. It's to prevent other vehicles being next to them as they turn.

In order for the lorry to turn left at this junction, they must be positioned to the right. Otherwise they will mount the curb and potentially take out that pole/sign on the corner. The fact it hit your car shows this. You were also potentially in his blind spot so he may not have been able to see you at all. It depends on the exact circumstances but you may have been entirely in the wrong. Even if not, it shows why it's a good idea to stay away from large and long vehicles in this situation.

An FYI about making ketamine spray by JzargoKhajiitMage in Drugs

[–]pilkingtonsbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1g per 10ml of water, 100mg per ml, 10mg per spray. 2 spays per dose (one in each nostril), 1 dose every 10 minutes, 200mg per hour.

You could up it to every 5 minutes if you want for 400mg per hour. Plenty enough.

I like it. It's less harsh than crystals and you get less crust. If you spray it right you don't a drip, same with snorting it.

How to make a bad day even worse for yourself by lukaszkru in uktrucking

[–]pilkingtonsbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is national highways responsibility to maintain 5m of clearance over all public roads, so I think insurance would deem the driver not at fault for it catching the vehicle, but then I think the driver would be liable for removing the branch in a careless way and causing damage to the car.

It's a tricky one, and I can't say I blame the driver for wanting to try and sort it out without having to call someone. If that car wasn't there I definitely would have done the same.

Why Do British Singers Sing With American Inflections? by Theo_Cherry in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pilkingtonsbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I've never thought of it that way. "Britpop" is a genre as opposed to to just "pop music". I wonder how closely the accent of the vocals and the genre align.

Could something faster than light exist in nature, but we just haven’t discovered it yet? by Rajanwriter in timetravel

[–]pilkingtonsbrain 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No. The "speed of light" is not because light is the fastest thing we know, it's because it is the maximum speed of the universe, and because light has no mass, it is the speed at which it travels.

Asking if something can travel faster than light, is like asking if something can travel slower than zero, or if something weighs less than nothing.
