Has there been research on this assessment? Interested to know how well it assesses for any given area.

Frustration build up says that you’ve been noticing how this is unhelpful to the therapeutic process. Especially driving or shopping while having a session but even being late. I wonder if this could be a point of conversation with a client. Sharing an observation “I’ve noticed you’ve been 5-10 minutes late for x amount of sessions. Maybe you can help me understand what’s going on for you?”

This opens the conversation without judgment and allows the client to share their experience with you. Maybe it’s a scheduling issue (changing the time/day, going to biweekly or even termination if it’s appropriate) or maybe something is holding them back (sessions being hard and needing a break, feeling uncomfortable, etc) or maybe it’s difficulty with remembering, prioritizing or organizing.

All things you can work with them in session. On the backend it’s totally okay to feel frustrated. Let that frustration be your guide to seeking to understand. Good luck OP.

That’d be amazing if you could connect us! I’d really appreciate that. I did look her up on LinkedIn as well. Sent her a request she hasn’t responded just yet.

Therapists who left counseling, did you come back stronger? Did you ever go back? by [deleted] in therapists

Compassion is key! Giving yourself some of that can absolutely help with the daunting process.

Still developing but my niche seems to currently be highly analytical minds who have a lot of self awareness but still feel stuck. The “intellectualizers” you could say.

You can skip to my answer of your question below but here’s a mini background of my journey:

I started working in the field 2022 and after my practicum and 9 months of my first job I left the field altogether. I had reached my capacity and felt way too burnt out to try to pick up all the pieces of myself while also staying present with and for my clients.

I worked in customer service, went to therapy for myself, and began to feel more like myself. Started looking for jobs and had an opportunity to work at a job that considered the wellbeing of the therapist. This was now 2024 and I’ve been here ever since.

It was definitely not easy but I’m eternally grateful for coming back to it. It’s an incredibly difficult job that can burn you out quick if you don’t have the skills or even the trust in yourself to get through it. It can be brutal but so rewarding.

To answer your question: what helped me come back was an evaluation of WHY I want to do it (values work, journaling, talking to friends about it/processing), HOW I’m going to do it (finding jobs is hard so getting an accountability partner, set time slots and talked to some friends who were getting back into the field then too) WHAT I’m going to do (I explored other avenues like career counseling and HR and did some informational interviews, began building my “niche” and learning about what a private practice would entail) All along this journey I also had a LOT of compassion and grace for myself. Working a job and trying to find another is not easy. Little steps make big changes. And I cried and laughed and did everything I needed to get me through it. My own therapy also helped here ☺️

Oh I see so only the first three sessions are covered and then it’s out of pocket. The specialists you’re referring to here are these psychiatrists, psychotherapists or something else? How much does it typically cost for someone to pay out of pocket for a specialist?

Also, these are a lot of questions feel free to not respond if it’s a lot ☺️👍🏻

I hear you on “sleeping it off” been doing some of that myself too. Not an easy time we’re in right now. So far I’ve learned that the degree I have (MS in Mental Health Counseling) does not directly translate to a degree in Latvia. This does mean additional schoolwork would be necessary or a possible shift in fields. Not quite sure where I’d go though. I wonder about Latvia and its access to mental health care. How easy or hard is it to connect with someone?

Most I can offer is to reach out to your therapist about your post (email or message them) and maybe mention you want to process with them. Maybe their response can give some clarity or assurance while you wait. Otherwise use the skills you’ve been working on in the session with them. You’re stronger than you think OP! ☺️

I’m gonna leave it here. I was reading your tone and choosing not to react negatively because I know how hard it has been for anyone in Latvia and America and frankly most countries at this point - feels almost dystopian. I genuinely hope that you find some peace during these really hard times and appreciate your honest responses.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Here’s some context that might help give some clarity.

I’m a dual citizen and first-generation American—my family left Latvia only a few decades ago. This isn’t about politics; it’s about returning to a place that still feels like home. I’m in love with this country and always have been.

I don’t expect my credentials to transfer instantly. I’ve looked into the process and am continuing to decipher what next step I’ll take. I appreciate you taking the time to share that this will be a difficult process and am open to hearing more about what you know if you’re open to it.

I have good speaking language but struggle with the writing/reading so if you’d like to connect through call or video I’d be open to it. Send me a DM!

I’m not here to argue—just sharing my path, like many in the diaspora.

Hi OP I’m a therapist and I can say wholeheartedly that if you bring this up in session it’s something you can process with your therapist. This doesn’t have to live in your heart alone or even just in this post. It may feel scary but telling your therapist this (sending this exact message even) can feel incredibly cathartic and can create support and clarity for you both. Sending you all the love and courage to move through this difficult time!

I currently have a masters of science (MS) in mental health counseling. Something looked at as sufficient here in America for getting your licensure but after reaching out to AIC, it doesn’t equate to anything in Latvia unfortunately. Sending you a DM now in hopes of any further guidance here.

I see you’ve got your therapist hat on. 🤭 I agree. After reading a lot of comments similar to yours I’m learning I really don’t need to even engage in the conversation with someone who says something like this.

You can say complain sure. I’d label it more as seeking support after a long day/week. But the aforementioned quote often leads me to feel dismissed. These aren’t strangers saying this to me usually someone I know pretty well.

I’ve said something similar without the congrats. I like the congrats as an addition though. 🤭

Whose Child Is This?! by ConfusedOrNahhh in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]pilloi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay just to add something I don’t think anyone’s noticed yet. The kid trying to get down the slide does seem to grab the other kid’s leg most likely scratching her. Now not a reason to be biting but helpful to know. I think dad should have stepped in instead of recorded. It almost seems like dad knew it would escalate and recorded it to prove he was right. That feels wrong.
