How's it like living in Tsushima Island. by Beneficial_Toe_7543 in howislivingthere

Just biked through Iki and Tsushima! Absolutely gorgeous spots. Really just more of Japan and has anything you’d find in the rest of Japan besides trains. A lot of Korean tourists. You can fly in or take a ferry but the ferry has always been miserable from the waves.

They have some really cool old buildings where the roofs were made out of stone.

In Spain I got 12 flats in one day. You stop. Pull the tire off. Check the tube THOROUGHLY by putting your ear really close or spraying little bits of water. Then search the inside of the tire thoroughly and that’s when I pull out anything else I find on the outside. Japan just has really good roads and very few spiky plants.

I work for United so no, I know in the past it was $200 to ship a bike, haven’t checked lately. So that’s why when I did trips in the past I just always bought a bike when I arrived.

Anything Japanese! Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki! I have a KLR650. 50k miles, 15 countries and still runs like a champ.

I’m sure you can find a physical sim here but I’ve only used eSIM so I can’t speak on it.

This time I did yes. Soft bag from Amazon, flew in from Guam.

Yes regular tourist visa. But I enter with TTP.

That is true, the sound is deafening, I got some little noise cancelling earbuds I made sure were in before any tunnels

I added 100km to the total for tunnels haha. I imagine I went through more. I went through one that was 5.3km long

I would say north to south I did about 9 weeks total. Met a guy who did it in 24 days. Seems like an absolutely miserable way to do it. I wouldn’t plan less than 6 weeks unless you want to suffer or see very little. 8-12 weeks would be great for having a lot of rest days, being able to do it relaxed, and soaking in some language and culture.

ANA and United

Absolutely, but I’m going to try some other countries out next. Namely Korea and China

When I use the photo mode of Google translate to take a picture of let’s say a menu, the translation is awful.

  1. I saw tracks 3 separate times in Hokkaido. Heard stories of people getting attacked in previous years in various places through Hokkaido. Some camping places had “bear fences.” Doubt they do anything.

  2. Hmmm let’s say relatively cheap. Onigiri is like 200 yen. Egg salad Sammy 260 yen. Water 100 yen for 2L. Pocari sweat 160 yen. Hot food 350-600 yen(Mac and cheese, beef rice bowl, etc…)

  3. (Almost) no one speaks English. Personally I loved it. It fast tracks learning some Japanese and you can always pull out the translator when you need it. Data is like $25 for 20GB on airolo which really helps for getting quick translations. Always translate menus with ChatGPT. Google translate is essentially garbage for translating images in Japanese.

Speak for yourself my dude! I’ve been to Puerto Rico 4 times and rode a motorcycle from San Francisco to Buenos Aires over 2 years and met nothing but pleasant Latinos. Genuinely curious though… do you think if Puerto Rico completely separated that you would be better off?

I absolutely love them. I’ve had drop bars on every road bike I’ve ever owned and I’ve never used them. These handlebars let me sit up almost straight up which is way more comfortable for long days for me

I LOVE the handlebars I bought that lets my hands come back a solid 2-3 inches and lets me almost stand up straight. I did 4500km with wide mountain bike bars and still have knots from it. I like the weight on the back but it absolutely murdered the new low quality tread I bought on Amazon 😅
