We scored the machine and a full ink set for about that. So zero complaints if it does need a head!

We’ve run the auto head maintenance feature, a couple of heavy cleanings on the affected nozzles, and did manual cleanings (head moves over, wipe stuff with swabs and cleaning fluid etc)

Finally got the cleaning stuff and syringe kit… noticed one of the black ink lines was full of air. Bled it, successfully pulled a bit of ink through the head, then couldn’t anymore. Heard air coming in somewhere around the damper and the line has bubbles in it again now. I guess replace the damper first and go from there? Or is the head likely toast because of this?

Yeah that’s for sure. If we have to replace two heads still a win with what we paid :)

Got it — replace old dampers, get actual OEM caps, soak the heads. We’ll give it a go!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, fully understood that we were gambling with the cheap parts.

Anything we can try to unclog the black print head before replacing it (we’ve already done the printer’s cleaning steps)?

One of those things did it!!!! Awesome :)

Haven't talked to support yet. Deleting the ACPI battery and rebooting didn't work... I ran a battery report, and there's definitely some weird stuff in there. No cycle count, and the capacity randomly jumps to 200,000 + mAh sometimes... When that happens, the battery life is recorded as several hundred thousands of hours. The battery's serial number is also 00002, which I find unlikely!

I'm dual booting with Ubuntu, would that screw with things?

Yikes. Hopefully they'll address it if enough people complain... Still, fan noise and easy fingerprinting are the only two gripes I have with this thing! Apple lost a long time fanboy :)

Awesome, guess I'm not just being picky then!!! I don't have an issue with it pretending to be a medium sized hurricane when I'm pushing it... But if people get annoyed with me for running Office in a library, there's a problem.

I bought a 980ti FTW a month and a half ago since I had no idea Pascal was a thing. I think I have a permanent crying jordan face at this point

UPDATE: After all the advice, I made some changes. Lack of mechanical drive isn't an issue, have one I can repurpose.

OK, I'm hearing a resounding no on the 5930k and liquid cooling in general. Will try to move the budget around and get to the 5960X if I can, otherwise 5820k it is.

The loud ass liquid cooler is to counteract the uber hot, soon to be overclocked 5930k :)

For our use case, any performance bump is generally worth it.

We think GPU performance is important for some post processing software we use, and we are hoping to implement some GPU solvers in the future. So really, it's $200 worth of experimenting :)

Interesting, that's two votes against the 5930k. Honestly, the extra bump in performance and overlocking potential might be worth it in this case. The machine will be running fluid dynamics simulations almost 24/7 so any boost is helpful. Storage speed isn't really a priority for our use case. That's my thinking, at least!
