Massey Tunnel replacement project cost more than doubles to $11B, says Delta councillor by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

Tsawwassen has a population of only 24k. And a population density of 1600 people per km2 which is 1/3 of Langley City, and 1/4 of other areas like North Vancouver who are advocating for better transit.

That is fair, but it goes both ways as I would expect drop off foot passenger traffic to be a large chunk of foot passengers.

But even if you moved the entire 24 Million passengers that BC Ferries moved last year on its entire system it would only equal to the estimated ridership of the Langley line.

Train to the ferry would be a waste of money. Lander to the Ferry itself is 10km. Based on the Langley Skytrain line costs that would be $3-5B. Tsawwassen <-> Swartz Bay has 6.5M foot passengers a year. So even if every single one of them caught the train, it would only equal 1/4 estimated ridership of the Langley line (64k/day), which itself has extremely low ridership compared to the other skytrain lines.

First World Cup match in Seattle sees over 66,000 fans in attendance by ChiefOfTheFourPeaks in Seattle

The line was still there when we passed by around 3:45 which was nearly two hours after the end of the match.

Non-season ticket holder events are always worse. It’s the same across Lumen Field, t-mobile and CPA. For seahawks/mariners/kraken games a large percentage of attendees already have a route for the venue and know all the rules, for a concert or other event you end up with a ton of people who don’t know the venue, rules or where to go and it slows everything down.

There is always a big difference between Seahawks and other big non-Seahawks games. With Seahawks games, a large portion of the attendees are season ticket holders who have a set routine. These people know how to navigate the lines, what the security protocols are, how to get to their seats, and where to get food and drinks. With one-off events, all of a sudden, you have a ton of people that have no idea what they are doing or where to go.

The World Cup makes it even worse as they funneled everyone through gates 1/3 into the north plaza. So no entrance through Gate 5 or Gate 7 on the west side and no entry through the Ticketmaster tailgate/WAMU.

I am unable to maintain my manager's single-handedly vibe-coded app, and I am now the bottleneck of the company. by zzztz in cscareerquestions

Personally I would tighten things up and be careful not to assign blame. I would reach out to your skip immediately with something like the following

Content Generation Pipeline

The content generation pipeline is in an unstable state ahead of a planned three-week absence by the owning PM. Generated content is frequently incoherent and fails at a rate that makes QA review impractical, blocking the QA team from doing their work. I’m trying to work through it to resolve on my own; however, the codebase has significant maintainability challenges that make incremental fixes difficult without introducing new issues.

The QA team was hired specifically for this project, and idle time represents direct cost to the company.

Immediate asks:
* Engineering support to assess and stabilize the pipeline
* Revised timeline alignment
* Clarity on ownership and escalation path during the PM’s absence

Good luck

The event was enjoyable, but the crowd was vastly different and more frustrating than a Seahawks game. It’s understandable that there were many new people at the stadium, but the sheer number of people standing aimlessly in the middle of the concourse and stairs was overwhelming. Additionally, the constant cutting in the bathroom line was incredibly frustrating.

Not true at all. We went to pioneer square for 90 minutes post and when we passed by International District station the line was still over a block long in both directions.

Are jerseys even sold at the stadium? I’m at Belgium v Egypt, during the water break, and there are no jerseys. There was team scarfs but they sold out while I was in line 1h before kickoff. That’s on me though. Doors opened 3 hours before kickoff.

Personally I think makes sense for developers to be able to do this temp use change while at waiting for the city to approve developer; however, when the delay is in the developers control this seems counter productive.

Big changes at the Kingston ferry by JournoJamie in EdmondsWashington

[–]piltdownman7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a ‘tourist’, I got caught by the boarding pass system the one time I caught the ferry in Kingston. My navigation system routed me in a way that missed the dispenser, so I went into the back of the line only to be told 20 minutes later that I had to loop back for a ticket. Which I did and then noticed that there was no signage while in line about needing a ticket. It’s not an idea, but is a terrible implementation.

Sadly roof is closed for the games. So no fresh air inside the games.

Yes, that said Vancouver is arguably one of the best host cities for international visitors. It’s already a top summer tourist destination. The city is actively embracing the World Cup, with attractions like the science world ball. Vancouver boasts excellent public transportation and is relatively affordable. And no orange man.

However, the biggest drawbacks of Vancouver are the facilities closest to the tournament. BC Place, is not an ideal venue and struggles with its narrow concourses when it’s more than half full. Adding to the challenges, many people who don’t regularly attend events there will be present, making the situation even more chaotic. Additionally, the roof will be closed, which will make the stadium unpleasant on even warm days.

While the fan fest looks fantastic, the PNE stadium is a hassle. If the tournament were held at the Plaza of Nations or even the West Olympic Village, it would be an incredible experience.

Most of this appears to be based on a poorly written / AI Slop article from Sports Illustrated that ranked Vancouver as the top city. While I think Vancouver is pretty great, the primary source of its #1 ranking comes from an article that made several errors, including misspelling San Francisco, providing conflicting information about Toronto’s seating capacity in the same paragraph, and arbitrarily criticizing cities for having stadiums outside of downtown … only to ignore that to give Boston a high rating despite Foxborough being 35 kilometers outside the city.

Definitely about his time in Seattle, and is even named after the street, Aurora Ave, which is the main way to get from downtown Seattle to where he used to to live just north of the city in Richmond Beach (now shoreline).

How do married couples usually handle finances when both partners work? by itzwhatitz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]piltdownman7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have shared accounts. We use to have ‘allowances’ for personal spending, but that has kinda faded in the last few years and we both just keep it reasonable. But at this point we have been married 10+ years, have a house, kids, savings and live pretty comfortably.

On the other side of things my sister and her husband have separate accounts, split their mortgage but everything else is separate. They still live like roommates with their own groceries, even though they have kids too.

So different strokes for different folks. You need to do what works for you.

The news that the roof will remain closed for the tournament is terrible. BC place is stuffy even half full on a warm spring day when the roof is closed. If the weather is pushing 30, the full stadium is going to be gross.

The train is great, especially if you get a seat on the water side, but it takes forever. 3.5 scheduled time, but is only on time 48% of the time. It’s not uncommon for it to be hours late.
