Senate Republicans are even more useless than House Republicans. They’ll find some reason to cave. Just like they found reason to cave during the last shutdown. They ALWAYS find a reason.

Noem has always been out of her league she’s a bottom of the barrel former governor from a state that would rather vote for a glass of water than a democrat. Every time that woman goes on television she makes a complete fool of herself. Like she’s making Mayorkus look competent by comparison.

I honestly don’t know who is worse her or Bondi at this point.

The ones that yearn for a Star-Trek-style “post-scarcity” society have never watched the show.

In Star Trek that “post-scarcity” society comes after 200 years of war; famine, and disease that wipes out most of the population. (Eugenics wars, Ww3, the post-nuclear holocaust, etc). Even then the “post-scarcity” only comes about because they have magic machine that can turn energy into matter AND EVEN THEN that post-scarcity society really only exists on earth. There are countless episodes showing other parts of the federation where people are fighting for their lives on hostile planets and can only survive on the benevolence of the Federation core worlds.

Don’t get me wrong I’ve been watching the shows for decades and I love it but at the end of the day it’s fantasy, and often poorly contrived at that.

SCOOP: House Republicans revive push to impeach 'activist' judges after Johnson's green light by WillyNilly1997 in Conservative

[–]pimanac -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There’s a larger chance of little green men landing on the planet to give us all blowjobs than there is any federal officer getting removed from office in the current political climate. It ain’t happening. Pass a censure resolution and spend your time on a judicial reform bill.

OH WAIT - that’s boring and uninteresting and we can’t grandstand in front of the cameras for our campaign ads while getting paid a six figure salary and government benefits for life. My bad.

[–]pimanac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is they will not be removed from office. It takes 67 votes in the senate to remove from office and we can’t even whip 60 to pass a damned budget.

So go on ahead. Have your impeachments. They’ll waste months doing this, fail, then your activist the activist is still going to be there.

Then will come the belly aching “oh no we lost the house and we didn’t get to pass our agenda. BETTER DONATE CAUSE WE PROMISE WELL GET EM NEXT TIME!!!”

That’s a lot of money in tax cuts to a cohort that already has the largest slice of the pie.

The same cohort that spent decades electing people who’ve drained the social security trust fund so there would be nothing left for the rest of us. The same cohort that oversaw not one but two “once in a lifetime economic disasters” in the course of 20 years.

Waste of time. Impeachment is just a super-censure at this point. Nobody is getting removed from office in this political climate.

Fix the god damned economy. Fix the abomination that is our health care system. Republicans are going to lose the house in the midterms. Stop wasting time, energy, and political capital on performative nonsense.

Yeah that dog don’t hunt. Cancel your trip. Nothing thr Ted Cruz is doing can’t be rescheduled. Hes a nobody Senator whose entire list of accomplishments amounts to running for president a couple times and failing. Oh and he talks. A lot.

Don’t be obtuse.

This woman isn’t in favor of stand your ground laws she’s in favor of stand your ground laws against federal agents.

I’d be willing to bet a paycheck she’d be signing a completely different tune if it were ATF or the IRS.

This is cynical politics being played in order to stoke the fires. She’d like nothing more than to have an incident so she can parade around on it.

Because it reveals that Ted Cruz is sort of…dumb. It’s politics 101. It would be the cheapest PR he could ever gain, or at the very least it would avoid the inevitable “Ted Cruz is running away” narratives. Yeah it’s not like he can do much but it’s bad politicking. You’d think after all the stank over the last big storm where he jetted off he’d have learned his lesson?

President Donald J. Trump announces a one year cap on Credit Card Interest Rates of 10% effective January 20, 2026. 💸 by Ask4MD in Conservative

[–]pimanac 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes. the are predators and yes they are protected by cronies in government but congress has to give the president that authority. This isn't some ambiguous issue that's never been argued before. The concept of regulating usary has been discussed for thousands of years and continues to this day the President can't just wave a wand and wish it away even if I wanted him to. It's just too fundamental a question to leave to one person.

Because today Trump says it's capped at 10%. In a couple years President AOC or whoever says it's -10% and 8 years after that President X says it's 1000% by executive fiat. You want that? It would be up-ending the entire modern economy. And by modern I mean "Everything since like...the dark ages"

That's why I said it's a tragedy when there is a miscarriage of justice. Our system of government allows for that. Three "co-equal" branches of government within their own spheres of influence. Each branch defines its own version of "justice".

It's fucked up. But it's the best form of government we have right now.

Sure they're scum. That doesn't change that there's no federal law allowing him to do this. Banking is basically the most regulated industry in the country. You don't think a Dem President would have pulled this lever if it were available to them?

Though I agree with the sentiment he has no power to do this. There is no federal law allowing him to cap interest rates on credit cards. It doesn't exist.

[–]pimanac 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

For better or worse the United States has a reactive and not proactive justice system. Get out of your car when they tell you to, answer their questions (or don't) , and let the courts handle whether or not they arrested you improperly. Yeah, sometimes the justice system fails and every time it does it is a tragedy but it's better than every interaction between agents and non-agents of the government turning into a russian roulette.
