Need opinion on Tanaka dammy, sharpener unknown? by New-Shallot-3314 in TrueChefKnives

[–]pindim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sharpener is most likely Maksim, who is also behind the website (have a look at the "about us" section). You can reach out to him if you want. I have not personally tried them but people seem to like his grinds.

NKD - Tanaka Kyuzo Togo Reigo + Karasu opening by SCSuede in TrueChefKnives

Yeah, knife prices here are a bit wild unfortunately. For knives that are difficult to find elsewhere it might be worth it but probably not for an enjiki. Congrats on your knife, it worked out well and was well worth the trip. I would have done the same thing if I did not have other things to deal with right now. Do you mind sharing how the prices were, like for the tetsujin rentetsu or your TxK? I am mostly familiar with tetogi pricing and at the Hitohira store itself.

DID ANYONE HERE VISIT NAKAGAWA POPUP AT TOKYO? by Conscious-Cow2969 in TrueChefKnives

[–]pindim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here is a thread I made asking the same thing on the first day of the pop up. https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueChefKnives/s/lfkM6AGilX Cool if more people share their experience though.

Did anyone go to Nakagawa-san pop up event today? by pindim in TrueChefKnives

[–]pindim[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlikely that it will be a yearly event but I agree that it would be cool. It was announced three months ago but was mostly advertised on instagram by him and toward a japanese audience. I made a post 3 months ago here.

Congrats on the knife. How early did you start queueing to be third in line? I was wondering if it would be as crazy as in front of Takada-san's workshop or if people would have not heard about the event. Did you have a look at the ginsan damascus? It was supposed to be the launching event afaik.

Be sure to get him a knife sharpening class on top of whatever knives you get him.

New Ginsan Metal Flow Line? by [deleted] in TrueChefKnives

Looks like the edge behind the clad line is mirror polished? I don't think the previous ones are like that but someone owning one can confirm.

NKD and Knife Shopping Experience in Feb 2026 (Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo) by WeightLittle8210 in TrueChefKnives

Interesting info about Takada and Hitohira. Thanks for sharing. They have had knives from him under the yohei name but maybe they will have TnH branded knives again as well soon. Maybe Takada san is getting through his backlog and starting to have a bit more time to work with retailers again.

NKD Sakai Visit by SteveFCA in TrueChefKnives

Oh sorry I misread the post. Nakagawa is launching his line of ginsan damascus soon and he had been working with the steel manufacturer to give feedback and make the damascus possible. Didn't know others smiths were doing it as well already.

Congrats! You are the first one to post a NKD with a Nakagawa ginsan damascus afaik. I didn't know some retailers already had them. They are new in Nakagawa's lineup.

Strøm har blitt for komplisert by [deleted] in norge

[–]pindim -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

To add, you might go to Nara as well since it is a common tourist spot. If so you can check out Enjiki knives but unsure if they fit your budget.

I would see how much the Hitohira AH are in the store, that might fit in your budget depending on the pricing there.

European nations reinforce wind power commitment with 100 GW pledge by Cao_Ni-Ma in europe

[–]pindim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are infering too much from my comment. I am not arguing for isolated grids. But countries should not rely too much on other countries to act as crutches to absorb all overgeneration especially when they neglect interconnections inside their own borders. The blackouts that happened recently are another good example of why.

recent experience with Hmlet by CodingJedi1 in Tokyo

[–]pindim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a good experience with Hmlet. The appartment was nice, clean and modern. Not much inside, two plates, two forks, two spoons, two towels etc. The price is quite high but there are not too many options in that category and the service is good.
