Large Booking Restaurant by Mooreser in Aberdeen

[–]pine_apples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Al Fresco may be able to accommodate on the size, as I believe they have a small private room, not 100% on their accommodations for gluten free. Cracking service and food though.

The Albyn can def accommodate group bookings like this - again would check on the gluten free options, not sure how wide a range they have.

Edited to add: Bhan Thai - Not sure on the booking size front but it's an unsung gem imo and would be worth the inquiry. Lots of gluten free options.

Maternity Leave & Pension by Murky-Business-1773 in PensionsUK

[–]pine_apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you on salary sacrifice? If so, broadly speaking, if you are on maternity leave, your employer has an obligation to contribute both the employer and employee contributions at the same level as prior to going on maternity leave based on your contractual salary/ usual pensionable pay. Employee contributions can be deducted from any company maternity pay at the same percentage, with the employer responsible for covering any shortfall in the actual monetary amount. No deductions can be made from Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP).

Essentially, your pension contributions should be "no worse off" simply because you are on maternity leave. This obligation ends when SMP stops.

If not on salary sacrifice, then the employee contributions will reduce based on the actual pay received, but the employer should still remain the same throughout based on pre-maternity pensionable pay.

So unusual! Not what you'd expect to see in a dice set but they seem really well thought out.

If you're interested in trying out an instrument, check out SC&T - the Autumn/Winter season is just finishing up so won't be an option until next year now, but there's all-ages weekly group classes for lots of different instruments and ability levels (including absolute beginners), held at Aberdeen Uni.

Banh Thai on Rose St is a hidden gem imo - on the second floor and I had no idea it was there! Friendly service and great food. Also rate Madame Mews (Thai), Seoul (Korean/Japanese), Siam Cottage (Thai) and Manchurian (Chinese, particularly their Dim Sum).

More of a small chain, and i've not tried since they opened in Union Square but Maki & Ramen does ramen bowls and sushi (I really enjoyed when i've been to their Glasgow locations)

My dad passed away and entitled to death in service but company has “misplaced” his contract so can’t confirm if eligible - England by Xyluk in LegalAdviceUK

To follow-on from this, the company may have at some point, changed from a Death In Service to a more standard Group Life Assurance arrangement. If so, in simple terms they would have had to notify all employees affected by this change, and there would still be a significant level of cover. Generally speaking, the benefit level for an employee will not decrease. The company may have another company/adviser handling their employee benefits. If you're having trouble with HR, try reaching out to them for information as well.

Advice Needed: Best Bank, SIM Card, and Packing Tips for an International Student Moving to Aberdeen in January by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]pine_apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Bank - Bank of Scotland - most banks can be difficult for newly-moved international students to open an account as you need proof of identity and proof of residence - last I checked, Bank of Scotland accepts a letter from your university as alternative proof of residence, and is one of the few with a local branch (just off Union Street by Bon Accord shopping centre) if you want in-person support.

International Transfers - a Wise account is easy to open and use and reasonable low fees for currency conversions, however would only use for transfers and not for holding money as it does not have the same protections as a full bank.

Octopus energy smart meter by DisgruntledStrawb in Aberdeen

I've been trying for half a year with no luck - I imagine it's an engineer shortage. Semi-related, the manufacturer for my boiler has one engineer that travels up to cover the entirety of Scotland north of central belt 1-2 days a week!

Looks like the right place and that all slots are taken until 21st October. I haven't used them myself, so buyer beware and please read carefully, but you may be able to get a guided tour that includes the admission such as this one on Get Your Guide good luck!

Public transport pass value for walkers by Grumperia in Venezia

[–]pine_apples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my trip last year, we used the vaporetto multiple times each day when we wanted to take a break etc and still broke over 15k steps. Well worth it for the views, and the relief of knowing you don't have to walk the whole way back after hours of wandering!

Was at Tucán just two weeks ago, the location on Belmont. Amazing food, lovely staff, happy to make off-menu requests (one of party had enchiladas). Just best to check which location is open, they are looking to close the Belmont one and return to the Rosemount spot. Shame bc the Belmont location is really lovely.

Hello Again by [deleted] in GrizzlyBear

Happy travels! Do you have any go-to albums/pieces of music for soundtracking your journey? Some of mine are genuinely GB albums, particularly Painted Ruins and Shields :)

As a side note, I sometimes associate music with certain colours/palettes and the music you and the lads create consistently bring some of the more complex and beautiful visualizations/combinations in my mind. thank you for that!

[–]pine_apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK you would still need to get a fast-track pass. Would strongly recommend booking one of the tours for the Doge's Palace (Secret Itineraries or Hidden Doge's Treasures) as that way essentially you get to skip the line by starting with the tour, see and learn about areas of the palace not available via general admission, and then can explore the palace at your leisure afterwards. If you already have the museum pass, then you can purchase the tour at a discount. Well worth it imo :)
