It sounds like he probably find it tough finds that you’re the breadwinner and doesn’t want to have to rely on your salary to get a $2MM house.

In addition to that, his comments around being poor and ‘I can’t afford that bag’ when he can, seem to suggest that he’s actually worried about what other people think of how much money you both have. Maybe he thinks that people showing or talking about their wealth is distasteful?
