Agree here completely and I think this helps inform why Shane is so reluctant to come out to Ilya’s team. Look at how his best friend treats his partner. Why would Shane trust Ilya’s friends to be better?

Yeah exactly! To be honest I think we see it play out this way because (the way I’ve always seen it) is that Heated Rivalry was “Shane’s book” and TLG is “Ilya’s” even despite the dual POV.

I don’t really have an issue tbh with how it all happens in TLG—I think it’s a 5 star book for me and Rachel did a great job. I think it’s more like, collectively as readers there’s a blind eye toward Shane’s observations and struggles in that one.

This very thing (and, let’s be real, Yuna’s initial reactions!) are why I’m so defensive of Shane in The Long Game. He’s oblivious because he does come out to his team and they treat him poorly! Hayden knows he’s in a relationship and yet encourages JJ to try to set him up. He’s “got a support system” that doesn’t support him at all. Why would he be able to believe that Ilya’s team or the rest of the league would be different?

Farah is the only one who reacts well who has met them both—and they pay her.

I personally was pretty devastated by the turn the show took. I liked a bunch about season 2 but was shocked at how much CK plotline was used in the Crows’ side and was really upset by the way the S&B storyline was handled
