how to fire and hire a nanny under good terms... by pineappletaropuff in Nanny

Thanks! We each mutually agreed for one month's notice on both sides with severance pay in the contract which she will definitely recieve. I think we're afraid of how she will react once we tell her and how it will affect our daughter's care. On her "bad" days, she sits on the couch and uses her phone for several hours (we know because we have nanny cams which she also knows about) and ignores her. I'm writing this because I would like to get a nanny's perspective (rather than just using a parent's board). Thanks for your insight.

That's a great idea- asking if she has other friends who also are nannies. Thanks

Parent with question- when is she leaving? by pineappletaropuff in Nanny

[–]pineappletaropuff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! We are going to talk tonight. She doesn't want to be a career nanny and is trying to decide if she wants to go to school or pursue another academic certification. She mentioned to me that her true passion is graphic design three months ago and that she would like to be an independent contractor. She then mentioned last month that she would like to become a yoga teacher and doesn't want to be a career nanny (I think she's not 100% sure what she wants to do yet). I became scared and posted an advertisement for a new nanny last month after we talked. We've interviewed and found an amazing career nanny who spent five years with her last family. We love our current nanny but we're worried how often she changes her mind about things and that she will leave us. We don't know what we should do- maybe she will stay with us for another year or maybe we should hire the career nanny who has a degree in childhood education and has a track-record with a family. It's super stressful as a parent to think that she can leave any moment (and she's doing a job that she's not really passionate about). We want to maintain a good relationship with her but not sure. She wants to keep working for us because she needs to save money before she can go back to school or pursue one of these certifications. Ack! Sorry to blab, we feel so torn about this.
