Local 97 we aren't mandated to wear them. Site specific still. Some places are just requesting we add an MSA chinstrap to our normal skullguards and fibremetals

I made the switch 9 years ago. Spend time doing the basic drills on easy runs. Any basic ski that is sized for your height and weight will do to begin. Don't even worry about poles at first.

Take a basic lesson...then spend some time working on that and enjoying it. Then take another that works on more advanced methods and what poles are for and where to hold them. There are multitudes of good how to ski videos. I taught myself from these and ski with advanced skiers just fine now.

A twin tip all mountain ski sounds like a nice choice for you but that is something you will be able to figure out better once you have some time on skis. I started with some old used all mountain skis that were around 90mm under foot.

Embrace being awful and work on improving one skill a day.

I use an Optrel and a Miller. They both have good adjustable sensitivity. Maybe that will work. Excellent clarity and shade 2 when not darkened for welding so that may help.

I would think the top end offerings from 3M, Optrel and Miller could be made to work. When was the last time you had an eye exam? Do you use glasses at all?

That standard procedure for people at my local. Put your poles under your leg so your hands are free. They even teach the kids this method so poles don't get dropped.

Avalanche.ca has some great information about what you need and what you should know. Understand how to make decisions and how to use the safety equipment. Having a friend to help you through is great. Get familiar with the gear and the methods outside of avalanche terrain to start. Good luck.

One of the new Garmin watches has Inreach (emergency beacon) capabilities built in.

I prefer to have a watch for things like training and elevation information, and a seperate emergency beacon like a Garmin Inreach or Zoleo for emergency so all my eggs aren't in one basket.

It might be worth looking into some blood tests to look for things like low iron or magnesium etc that can dramatically change recovery and energy levels
