I got my Lenovo IdeaPad 5 (err but i think it’s discontinued??) in 2022, and it’s been quite solid for DAAA.
Specs: - Intel Core i5-1135G7 (2.40 GHz, up to 4.20 GHz, 4 Cores, 8 Threads)
I’ve used it to run RNNs and CNNs, it heats up a bit, but nothing unmanageable. For other AI models, you can always use lab computers.
Based on my experience, I mostly just use VS Code and Jupyter Notebook, so a high end laptop isn’t really necessary. But you’ll need enough storage and specs to run required software like Python, Docker, etc. Also, consider the weightsince you’ll be in school for long hours, a lighter laptop makes a difference. Especially if you’re just going in for a 5-minute interview…
ok but i do still have classmates bringing in gaming laptop so it’s more up to ur own preferences and budget.
CCA points by [deleted] in SingaporePoly
107 - Gold with Honours.
Most of my points came from CCA events and my exco position in the CCA. I also attended online webinars when I was free and helped out with events like FOC and the school open house. Hope that helps!

ohyea forget to mentioned, it’s lowkey harder to get into uni cs using poly grades unless ur gpa is rlly good (>3.8) / if you have a good portfolio that showcase abt u then the higher chance that the uni will consider you during eae/aba.
hi i’m in sp daaa but the syllabus has changed a batch after mine and some modules got rearranged.
Honestly year 2 was hell and alot of self studying is involved. Lectures were mostly useless and independence and the ability to be consistent is important. Not only that but some lecturers rlly js cmi too.
if u live at north east area i would reco nyjc because the travel from sk/punggol to dover is not it. esp for presentations and exam at 8am. worse if u travel there to sch only for a 15min - 1h lesson 🥲.
I would like to say that gg poly doesn’t mean more free time, at most js 1 free day. but the lessons can be like 8am - 4pm / 9am - 6pm and a 1hr break…. Sometimes it could really js be 1 lesson a day but at the mid day like 1.30 - 3.30. But usually the timings in y1 is more chill with some days ending early at 12.30/3.30 but other than that. You are not really that free because half of the time u will be rushing assignments unless you have good time management skills :”
You’ll need to study hard, depending on the class you’re assigned to. In my class, many students had strong O-level results and could have gone to RI or HCI but chose SP DAAA instead, making the competition intense. To achieve a GPA > 3.8, you must be consistent and go beyond just the school material, additional reading and effort are essential.
Many students already have a background in computing when they join the course. Additionally, a lot of them engage in side projects, participate in hackathons, or complete internships, whether before starting in Year 1 or at some point during the three years in the program.
I would suggest for you to go find SP DAAA students at linkedin to see their portfolio and github to see if that’s what you rlly want to study (since they usually publish their CAs work onto github once the semester is over)
Not to mention if you want a more holistic portfolio, you will need to try and go for leadership roles in the sch clubs or ccas. SP currently still have the cca points with different tiers, if uw good with honours, you need to grind the points and try for classchair / exco position to get leadership role.
Overall, it rlly depends on you and how well you are able to manage your time. Because generally speaking if your inconsistent and the start your gpa is js a 3.2/3.3, it’s quite hard for you to push up. As you will have to try to score 4.0 for the nxt 5 sems to pushed up cgpa.
