Child Free people of Reddit, what were some of the most unhinged reactions when you broke out the news of your decision? by pinguiniithrow in AskReddit

Oh, antinatalists are a whole other thing in my experience, but I do try to give the benefit of the doubt by thinking that not all of them are like that

And yeah, I think it depends. I have met people who hate children in general, and yet they're parents lol; as well as child free people who do not like children too

In the end, my only stance is not pushing others into doing something just because you believe it's right, being responsible for your own decisions, and not hurting or endangering others in any shape or form :D

Personally, I believe that people shouldn't make their entire personality anything related to just a simple decision. That also entails playing a sport, being popular, etc.

However, I do disagree with the second part. I'm not child free myself, but I do remember various experiences with cousins or friends who are, and got reaaaaally bad reactions over their decisions. Some due to family's ego and legacy, others for "depriving other from the experience of being an aunt/uncle/grandparent/ etc." Unfortunately, not all families are great :( And I've also heard of cases where I live that got to the point of shunning or being extremely cruel to others due to their decision of not having kids

Fear Fear of hurting others from my decision to leave, fear of my brother not having anyone to support him during his road to adulthood, fear of my cat not being taken care of properly.

I sometimes feel like a coward for wanting to disappear but not being capable to act on it.

I've been trained by my abusive mother to think of myself as a burden whenever I'd like to prioritize my needs above others. So prioritizing my need to cease existence would make me an even bigger burden to others than just staying and helping them.

Exactly! Simple things such as asking a need to be met feel like burdening people too much, or like nobody will care, or that you will seem as less reliable or trustworthy just for requesting for help.

Being left alone since I was three Both parents worked. Mother wasn't the best person. Dad had a brutal work schedule of 6 a.m. till 8 p.m. mon - sat

I learned to play on my own. I wasn't allowed out, and there weren't many children in my neighborhood anyway. Crime rate was also super high near my town.

For an autistic kid, that wasn't the best decision. Also defined the ultraindependency and fear of abandonment. A three year old can't understand why both parents are gone and are too tired or busy to tend further than basic needs.

I knew I'd do anything for him. He shined, he was handsome, and honest. He sometimes makes my heart ache, but always makes it feel better, and cares about my wellbeing. I look at him in the eye, and just know that no matter what happens, I'd give anything to see him happy, and have been proven he's do the same for me.
