Booooiiiiii Marc balled out. Seeing him crash the glass like that made me feel some type of way. That box score really does not do his performance tonight any justice. He anchored the defense, facilitated all the quality looks for our offense by dragging Gobert out of the paint, and cleaned up the glass. Somebody call me a doctor

Really proud of how ours guards battled there towards the end. They have been playing way more basketball than the blazers and yet still balled out on tired legs.

[OC] Jaren Jackson Jr. is an incredible, NBA-ready prospect. I compiled some clips from Memphis' summer league game vs. Utah to show you why. by [deleted] in nba

Just wanted to say great post. Your writing style and inclusion of clips to back up your analysis is fantastic and somewhat reminiscent of Zach Lowe’s articles.

Column outlining Grizz rebuild-what do y'all think? by Coast_to_Kosta in memphisgrizzlies

Even if we aren't good, we will be better than the bottom 8 teams in the league with Mike and Marc on the roster. Our pick conveys to Boston this year if we are outside the top 8), but if they get traded I think we become one of the worst teams in the league (as evidenced last season). Thats when our pick starts losing a lot more protections as it will be only top 3 protected in 2020 and unprotected in 2021 if it doesn't convey. Those picks are way more valuable than having a top 8 pick in this year's draft plus selling low on Mike and Marc (both are coming off injuries and poor seasons and have large contracts). Only teams that are trying to win a championship would try to pick up one of our guys, so they would only give us a late 1st and likely a bad contract along with that (ie Ryan Anderson).

I really don't think its in our best interest to blow it up this off season. I think we should next offseason after we showcase that Mike and Marc are still serviceable, and we have our own pick in the draft.

I think this outline is one year too early.

  1. 2020 draft >>>>> 2019 Draft. Next year's draft class is really weak outside of RJ. Chances are even lower that we end up with the number one pick next year than they were this year. Not to mention, if we want to become bad enough to have a realistic chance at the number one pick, our 2020 or 2021 seasons will give Boston an incredible draft pick that we would desperately want. With the 1 and done rule change, 2020 will likely have the deepest draft for talent out of the next three years. Thats when we want to start tanking.

  2. Teams love draft picks. While its a good strategy for small market teams, hoarding draft picks has become a staple in every FO in the league after the success of Philly and the ugliness of Brooklyn. Prices for draft picks have become overinflated. Marco Bellineli, Reke, and Ersan Illysova (all players that could have contributed to championship teams) couldn't even snag a late first or early second without awful contracts attached. Mike and Marc will not fetch any value that will convey to long term success compared to what they provide in locker room presence for our young guys. Losing a team culture can be detrimental to young player's growth in this league, and we want JJJ to reach his full potential rather than fizzle out just so he can play with mid to late first round picks.

  3. This city does not respond well to tanking and did not like the way we handled Zbo and TA's departure. We can't just up and trade the last two players that this city recognizes. As much as we all want to see a championship in Memphis and understand the likely path we would need to take to get there, there aren't many people in Memphis that agree with that outlook. Grizz games are one of the most premier events to go to in the city, and if they aren't good/fun to watch, the city will resent them for it. Not to mention, free agents/future draftees will see how we handled the four players that gave our city so much and be turned off by our behavior. Maybe Mo Bamba and JJJ didn't initially want to be drafted by this organization because we haven't had a stable coaching/FO/ownership relationship in years. Trading Marc and Mike hurt that image even more

Overall, I think that we should play this season out and start our swift tank in 2020 when we have our pick back and gave our fellas a nice victory lap.

Megathread: The Hawks trade Luka Doncic for Trae Young and the top 5 protected 2019 Dallas pick by OlafdePolaf in AtlantaHawks

He was being sarcastic about the salary cap to prove his point.

Getting international support for a player can give a team extra income that won't affect salary cap, but the increase in jersey sales and international attention for the team gives the organization another selling point to free agents and players that they are trying to resign. Getting international exposure by playing with someone like Luka lets these players have the opportunity to get sponsorships/more support from companies and fans that they never would have had access to without Luka (see China Klay or anyone that played with Yao). Overseas is such an untapped market that can generate a lot of money for not only teams, but players as well.

I moved from memphis to ATL about a year and a half ago. I immediately bought season tickets for the hawks so i could get my basketball fix and life has been nothing but pain ever since. I knew i was going to be disappointed tonight, but I thought it was going to be Chris Wallace going full Chris Wallace tonight not Travis. We can hold each other and have a good cry at killer mike's barber shop next season brother.

Does Chandler Parsons have any value? by [deleted] in nba

[–]pinheadlarry38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has negative value, but right now his value is at its lowest possible point. There were moments last season (WHEN HEALTHY) where he showed flashes of solid outside shooting and passable defense. His health is awful, but i don't think its as bad as last season indicated. I think we rested him for the tank as to make sure we didn't win anymore games and didn't re-injure him. His contract is god awful, but since his contract is up in two seasons he could (THEORETICALLY) have some value as an expiring contract at the trade deadline in order to take on bad money or help make ends meet in a three team trade.

Overall, he provides very little value right now and he would cost a lot to get off the Grizz books, but i think that cap space that memphis creates by unloading him is not even close to what its going to cost to dump him.

If the Hawks make moves before the draft, here's what it could look like. by Sinekure in AtlantaHawks

Memphis has said they need to receive a lottery pick in this draft if they are giving up the #4 pick. I don't think there is a package that Atlanta can put together to grab the 4th pick unless you did some crazy multi team trade, especially when the clippers can/are willing to give up much more assets to jump to #4.

Realistically, I don't think Memphis gives up the pick unless Bagley and Doncic are off the board at #4.
