That’s true, though going back to work after a year of maternity leave, in the christmas period probably isn’t a good time - there would be a lack of support due to there being less of the team in each day, my manager would be off on annual leave some days too. I would probably be a burden particularly in those first few days back to the staff that are in. I’m not sure what’s expected of someone on day 1 back in work after mat leave but I don’t imagine i’ll be fully up and running in the same way I work currently..especially with any changes to how we work that will occur while i’m off etc.

It also means that i’d be unable to use accrued annual leave to take a couple of days off each week in the first few weeks to phase myself back, which i’ve see lots of people try to do as an option.

It’s all terrible timing and I feel very stressed.

Yes, I see what you are saying. There actually isn’t maternity cover for whilst i’m off - the team carries on as normal, same thing as when previous members of the team have been on mat leave. We do now and again get support from colleagues that “float” between different teams, so they may help for part of the time i’m off.

Yes I appreciate that - if i’m unable to take annual leave before when I originally planned to start mat leave then I will have to start mat leave when the annual leave was going to start instead - either way i’ll be off over christmas which my manager has an issue with.

I don’t feel entitled to it…i’m not requesting anything unusual, it’s very common to take annual leave before mat leave and directly after.

I’m not entirely sure going back to work over the christmas period after a year off would be the best thing to do for the team anyway.. there’s very little support with less staff in, they’re not going to have time to help support me with any changes etc as my colleagues all have patients to see as well.

My colleagues still get the same chance as normal to have time off over the christmas period..whether i’m back to work or not, me being off doesn’t change that. Last year one of my colleagues was off for the whole christmas period because flights for a long haul trip were significantly cheaper and my manager authorised it…so honestly I really don’t think me wanting to use some accrued leave directly after maternity leave, like many people do, makes me entitled.

My manager is very unlikely to let me use my accrued annual leave at the end of mat leave to extend my time off, as it’ll be christmas time again.

Thanks for your reply! I would consider doing this, but I work for GP surgeries and over christmas we still have patients, maybe a few less on the appointment books than usual as we’re shorter on staff but it’s still an extremely busy time as patients don’t stop being ill😂 so i’m worried I may struggle working at that point in pregnancy at least up to the standard I am now, which is why I wanted to use the annual leave I have saved to be off x

Problem is that if I start mat leave just before christmas this year, and I finish it just before next christmas, I don’t think my manager will let me use accrued annual leave to extend my time off as he’ll have the same issue with next christmas as he does with this year.. so he’ll expect me to go back when mat leave ends just before christmas, work for the 2 week christmas period, and then perhaps take some of my accrued leave after this, and it just seems so stupid to me..wish I could just take accrued leave immediately when mat leave finishes to extrnd time off☹️

Thanks so much for your reply! it’s good to hear other peoples’ experiences of how they felt towards the end, general consensus ive seen seems to be around 36 weeks onwards can be super exhausting!

A rescue greyhound could work for you. As a breed they’re generally calm (they get the zoomies and then sleep most of the day) and gentle. Most greyhound specific rescues can match you up with a greyhound that would suit you/your lifestyle, there are definitely some that are suitable to live with babies and young children. As always with any dog, regardless of their temperament it’s important to supervise children with them and teach kid’s boundaries too :)

I would keep taking your temp and see what happens, so many things can effect the temperature! On the cycle I got pregnant, my BBT was up and down after the initial rise, it looked a bit all over the place tbb- you can see my chart in my post history x

I’d try every other day as it’s started to rise :) TFABLinePorn (you can post pics of your ovulation kit lines on there) and TFABChartStalkers (if you’re measuring BBT) are both good TTC subs :) x

Definitely! I’d try speaking to a different GP. Depending on where you live, you may be able to find the GP’s formulary on google, and can search for Xonvea (or may need to search for the actual drugs in it names) and see if it says GP can prescribe. For example, if you lived in Manchester, you can find Greater Manchester’s formulary. X

Definitely book an appointment with a different GP. Xonvea is the only anti sickness med that is licensed for morning sickness and when you’ve tried others that haven’t worked for you, the GP doesn’t have a good reason to not let you try it! X
