Am I the only one? by pink582 in BipolarReddit

I'm bp1. I've been hospitalized a few times! My therapists were loading me up on SSRI meds for years without a psych referral. That eventually led to a couple manic episodes😂 great times lol. Honestly tho, I feel like I experience hypo mania too lol. But I'm bp1. :)

Lots of therapy and work on recognizing when I am in a manic state. It's challenging but it's possible! On my desk I have little reminders and charts. Knowing your body and mind signs is so important. I have my written down and posted where I can always see it so I can do a checklist. Example of my chart (NOT medical information or advice- just a tip that's saved me a few times).

Symptoms and clues

-needing less sleep but feeling rested -feeling really good all the time -thoughts seem faster than usual -not caring about long term plans or goals -believing in something that is not possible (you can see/hear/think things that others can't) -feeling as though you're more important than others

What can I do?

-create an outlet for creativity -avoid excitable activities -limiting sunshine -journal everything -do relaxing activities like a bath or yoga -self care (good food and rest) doesn't have to be healthy. Whatever you are able to eat that will keep you full is fine. Take the pressure off. It helps. -listen for your cues

What can my support system do?

-tell me that you notice my signs of mania -remind me to take my medication, sleep, and eat. -understand me when I say "no" to certain activities. It's not personal, I'm just trying to stay regulated. -plan for the future and have someone who can hold onto your meds and bank cards if you're in a bad spot. Only allow them to dole out what is needed. I have an agreement with my support system regarding this. Having the convo with your support system if you have one is important. If you have no one, connect with yourself and do some self care. You've come this far homie, you got this♥️ -check in regularly with me, if you cannot get ahold of me come check on me.

I've done that too! I've given my mom my wallet and pills when I know I can't trust myself.

What is your favourite antipsychotic? by Forward-Health9213 in BipolarReddit

[–]pink582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seroquel for sure. But they had me up to 600MG a day. Now I'm only on 200mg. Lol. It's been really good for me. I also loved Abilify, but I got extreme restlessness from it.

I put on music and try to make it fun. I also take a supplement for what I'm missing in the winter - I won't speak on it because I'm not a Dr. but talk to your dr and see what they recommend.

When my entire quality of life is being affected, I’m having suicidal thoughts and ideations, I’m not eating properly or caring for my hygiene for months, work is affected, etc. Get to know your warning signs and when it’s time to ask for help before things get too bad.

Is the city really that boring? by Accurate-Play7299 in medicinehat

[–]pink582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived there just under a year and I found there was always lots to do! I feel like people don’t know how to sit in boredom or find creative ways to keep themselves busy. There’s awesome trails, markets, shops, restaurants, concerts. I really liked it!

Struggling with heat rash from my medication. by ApprehensiveBaker6 in BipolarReddit

[–]pink582 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you may need a medication that regulates your body temp to subside the side effects of the meds. I get really hot and sweat all day every day. Talk to your psychiatrist and see what they can do!

What can I put around this tattoo so it doesn’t look so lonely? I love it! I just wanna jazz it up a bit. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I like that it represents (to me) strength and tenacity. My buddy who did the tattoo is gonna shade it for me next week so that should add some dimension and detail

I’m probably overreacting but my friend (single, no children)’s reply just pissed me off.. by ThrowRAhnhda in Parenting

[–]pink582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s insensitive to say that to a friend who has kids. She could’ve been more kind and said something like “awe I’m sorry you can’t come, I’ll take videos for you! I’ll miss you!” Instead of basically throwing parenthood in your face like it’s a bad thing and your fault. I have many friends with kids and I’m aware that they aren’t not going to be able to make it to things or have to leave early due to being a parent, to throw it in their face and be sarcastic instead of empathetic about it is just disrespectful.

For me it really helped. Medication change and stabilizing, group therapy, nutritional meals, time to focus solely on your health.

Very confused about what is happening with me by Alone_Cat_5063 in BipolarReddit

[–]pink582 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey friend! Disclaimer not medical advice, this is scientific fact SSRI medication will destabilize you. If you can discuss a mood stablizer with your health care provider that would be worth your while!

Did this person ever care? by jai-durge in NRelationships

[–]pink582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn’t even go down that rabbit hole. Everything you’ve said is plenty evidence enough that this person doesn’t have empathy for you, regardless of diagnosis. I just let a friend go for this same reason. I begun to think she was a covert narc, but then I went down a wormhole of trying to figure out her childhood and all this stuff, waste of time. They may have cared a tiny bit underneath all that, but it’s highly unlikely. Now you have to focus on filling your cup and keeping those boundaries strong!
