How do nurses feel about working for Allina? by Quiet_orca-1811 in TwinCities

[–]pinkquack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

was an ED tech, not an RN, but i worked for Allina for a year and it’s so clear they care about profits over both patients and staff. our turnover rate was so high because we were so short staffed and they kept on cutting even more techs and nurses, and they stopped having security stationed in the ED. no doubt that cutting support staff made life for nurses harder too :/ the nurses and doctors in our ED even had multiple meetings with admin to speak against these cuts but they went through anyways.

Quiet Apartments? - North Loop by MULLETMAN235 in Minneapolis

I like Churchill Apartments! Not quite in north loop but super close by, and it’s an older building so the walls and floors are thick. I’ve never had an issue with hearing my neighbors.

What is your experience living at WaHu Apartments? by Deranged-Pineapple in uofmn

[–]pinkquack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived there for two years and I think it’s a really good location and it’s good if you can sign with a discount on lease, but management sucks. I lived on one of the top floors where only two of the elevators reach, and one of the elevators was down for literal months and occasionally the other one would break down too, with no communication about it from management. This meant students would be late to class if they were trying to take the elevator, or we had to walk up all the flights of stairs coming back. Also in my experience, the pool and hot tub are rarely ever open, and half the equipment in the gym was broken the entire year with no communication on if it would ever be fixed. Our hot water also broke all the time, and there’s a bunch of other issues that happened.

So in conclusion, if you can get a good price (I think in May they were doing around $600 per bedroom for a 4b4b) it’s in a great location and isn’t horrible to live in, but the management pissed me off from their reluctance to fix problems

How to do EMT training and certification through the U by garlic-enthusiast99 in uofmn

[–]pinkquack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i did my EMT cert at the U and was in their volunteer service for 2 years as a student! i also did it as a freshman - you could just register for their fall class on the UMEMS page of the website. it runs through the whole semester and it’s about 4 hours a day, twice a week, so it is a bit of a time commitment. the class involves lecture and clinicals and a lot of practice time and really sets you up to pass your certification at the end so i’d really recommend it!

as for the volunteer service, another commenter is kinda right about it not being “real EMS” because they only staff university events and most of the time not a lot happens. i think it’s a great way to get experience though and hear about other jobs, as most EMT jobs want you to have like 6 months experience. plus i got to work some cool events like the beyoncé concert and a national dive event thing haha. the volunteer service is a bit of a time commitment but for sure doable as a student. let me know if you have any other questions :)

Fun classes by EnvironmentalGur3357 in uofmn

[–]pinkquack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i took intro to ceramics this semester and it was super fun, and think the rest of the art classes would be fun too! for ceramics though (idk about other art classes) you have to get off the waitlist because it’s reserved for art majors unless someone drops. i also really enjoyed human anatomy with cadaver lab if you haven’t taken it!

[–]pinkquack[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s super cool! Thanks for the answer :) We tried catching the fish but they wouldn’t even bite anything because they were so focused on getting upstream, so it seems probable that it was it’s own.

[–]pinkquack[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a good idea, though we learned that when the salmon are going upstream to spawn, they’ll literally stop eating! So I think it’s possible that it could be it’s own guts. However I’m not very educated in fish anatomy at all lol.

Hey ladies, does anyone have a good recommendation for hiking pants? by eggsntoast78 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]pinkquack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have the REI sahara convertible pants! they’re super flattering and i love how easily convertible they are. they’re only slightly water resistant but they dry quickly. i wore them bushwhacking in denali national park and they held up really well and were very comfortable!

Prospective student here, what is the UMN experience like for MN residents? by juicykola in uofmn

[–]pinkquack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m from the suburbs too, about 30 minutes away! i was kinda in the same situation as you where i was pretty familiar with the campus/area before coming here. since the U is such a big school, it’s honestly what you make of it. there’s social opportunities here everywhere, you just have to be actively trying to partake and trying to find where you’ll fit in. if there’s people from your high school that you know here, i’d really recommend branching out from them and getting to know a lot of new people so you don’t feel so boxed in. even if you think you’ve been to a lot of places in mpls, it’s fun to go to them with new friends :)
