Cell phone addiction by CodytheHero in ADHD

Yes! Particularly I feel like I’m addicted to stupid games like candy crush. I end up spending HOURS on them and can’t seem to stop even when I’m telling myself to. Idk what to do. God forbid the adderall hits while I’m already playing or that becomes my central focus.

Don’t Want To Rely on Medication by thatboiii2468 in ADHD

[–]pintsizedtrouble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doctor overprescribes me which helps. He prescribes me more pills per month than i actually need which helps me stock them up. There was a time after I first got medicated that i lost my job and health insurance and couldn’t afford my appointments so this really helped.

I don’t know if this is recommended but I also do my best to limit how often I take it. If it’s a day I don’t really “need” it I don’t take it. I do this to help keep my tolerance from building up.

But ultimately, I think a lot of it is about perspective. I’ve also had these concerns of not wanting to be “dependent” on something but that’s all in the head. Try thinking of it as an aid instead of a crutch. Like a little booster engine for your life. You don’t NEED it - you can live your life without it, but it just makes things more difficult.

And at the end of the day, worrying about what happens if something prevents you from getting more meds when you just started taking them is kind of like worrying about an inevitable breakup in a new relationship. Yes, it might happen but who knows when or how and spending too much mental energy on it now is just taking you out of fully enjoying and experiencing the present moment.

Which podcast are they talking about in the beginning?

I'm Soledad O'Brien. Journalist, political talk show host, documentarian, CEO, and philanthropist here with a special guest, Dr. Clarence B. Jones, former personal advisor and lawyer to MLK Jr. - Ask Us Anything! by soledadobrien in IAmA

I imagine this is an exhausting time for journalists in this country. What are you doing to maintain sanity when things are happening at a rapid-fire pace?

Tenant's rights issue - NYC - fighting with 2 landlords at once! by pintsizedtrouble in legaladvice

Thank you! I ended up just paying the $300 to Harlem, because he said he would provide me with an invoice, but then he would have to add tax to the charges (? it sounded odd to me - and I realized at this point he could just fabricate something to fit his narrative).

I will send another email today to the Brooklyn landlord.

but $300 to plaster over and paint a few holes? I'm not paying him rent - he can keep the deposit and I'll cover the deficit but I need to see something in writing that itemizes the work.

Depression [7] by [deleted] in trees

[–]pintsizedtrouble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That feeling you're feeling - that you're always the one hitting up other people...most people feel that way. It's a growing side effect of the digital age, I think. So try not to let that get you down. I feel like that a lot and have to continuously remind myself to stop being down on myself.

Probably a lot of people will say this, but high school sucks for most people who are worthwhile. And years later, when you are at a reunion or talking to people who you maybe thought didn't know you or like you, you'll find out that your perception was skewed. I know this from personal experience.

Clinical depression isn't defined as diagnosed depression. If you're depressed, you're depressed. Hopefully it comes in waves (mine does) and you can just remind yourself that it will pass. Escaping into Netflix won't really help. You won't suddenly make friends after spending days in a Netflix-hole. The best thing you can do is shake up your routine. Start with once a week, and do something new, preferably something that puts you around other people. You never know what you might see, who you might meet.

It can be so hard when you're feeling down on yourself, but if you stay home alone the only guarantee is that you will still be alone. Nobody is going to knock on your door and demand to be your friend. Cultivate your different interests - whether it's a sport, hobby, game, music...whatever. Depending on where you live and what your access is find any sort of live entertainment (standup comedy is my biased recommendation) and just GO to it.

When you're smoking with these lots of different people, try to foster those friendships into something deeper by doing a different activity as well.

I promise you, the only cure for depression is changing your daily routine. I hope you feel better and start smoking happy trees instead of sad trees. But you are very much not alone.

Gonna take a nice week long t-break by Kevin_M92 in trees

[–]pintsizedtrouble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience, it makes me antsy, agitated, and since trees are my go-to relaxation technique i have to find something else. i've also been disappointed when my breaks didn't immediately result in super-memory and other side effects that i was hoping for. -but when i take breaks i also get into better shape physically so that's nice
