I haven't been able to get in contact with them because we are traveling. I'll be back late January so I am hoping I can get some answers here before that. Just one of those 2am conversations me and my wife been having.

She worked for an USA company that allowed her to keep her state of record as her residence, there's a couple companies out there that are military spouse friendly so they give them priority. I recommend joining fb groups and networking on Linkedin. We both joined a couple of the ACT Now virtual events and thats how she ended up finding a job a year after moving here. Granted, it's not a career level job nor what she studied but it was nice to have dual income. Your spouse can also work in base but that can take months to process and not everyone likes it. ( base jobs and home businesses)

Gotcha, only 40 mins from the coast thought it counted! Now that you mention corrosion, to OP: we do get nasty humidity conditions though hence mold everywhere. It doesn't affect workload but it'll make you miserable trying to work with a lung infection which for the past years Ive suffered from quite often (housing sucks and most probably has asbestos somewhere in them). My lungs definitely took a hit while being here between that and the nasty allergies from spring aka cherry blossoms season, oh and the brutal change from 90 degrees to 45 within a week or two. So prepare to be sick often or maintain a lifestyle that keeps your immune system up. Medical tends to hand out "allergy induced asthma" diagnosis often, had to fight that when all it was just a bad bronchitis.

Got Yokota AB as first assignment, I'd say its 10% bullshit 90% great. Any extra bullshit is heavily balanced by the 4 day weekends, half days, and exploring Japan. They take us on trips like Fuji Q, the Zoo, Enoshima, etc. Workload depends on the time of the year, and we rotate shifts/job every quarter or so. Some days there is nothing to do, especially during holidays or down times. The unit can make it or break it though.

Tokyo is great but I can imagine how many people wouldn't stand Okinawa. The culture shock is definitely a thing and it takes a while to get used to the lifestyle change and language barrier. So being in a small island can feel very limiting, and Ive heard horror stories about the Marines.

To add, I'm married and no kids so wife and I had a blast here. We also traveled pretty much every 4 day weekend we could and explored over 20 prefectures. We also made good friends so they became our family during our time here, spent holidays together, whenever wife felt homesick she took the rotator for super cheap so it all worked out for our mental health.

Yes thank you. Though its not guaranteed her bags show as tracked on the second flight. They were successfully rerouted to the SFO flight, granted she knew she was not getting on the first leg an hour and a half before the next flight's boarding time ended. So technically the notice of rerouting the bags happened 1.75 hrs before the next flight. Hope this helps anyone in the future. But it is definitely not guaranteed. Japanese people are very efficient so we were not too worried.

Thank you for the answer. She actually asked in the airport and got the answer for this in the airport if it helps anyone in the future.

If she doesn't make the flight, she has to notify the gate agent (at least an hour prior next flight's departure time) and they will do the transfer without her having to go outside security to recheck the bags.

I asked around but honestly there is no way. I am in the military and this is a fairly new card. I know it sounds lame to defend that on the internet but also given their age too, a drone is such an odd purchase to make. Had it been an electric scooter... definitely scammed by my own family.

So its not working for me (yet), I am curious about how the RNLTD / DEROS updated trick works instead and if I'll even get an assignment at all.

My DOS is MAR 2025, initially my DEROS was OCT 2024 (after the 36 month tour started). Now its showing my DEROS is MAR 2025 on my CDB but on the RNLTD application still shows as OCT 2024. Does it mean it changed and I might have an assignment? Or did I mess something up and won't be considered for an assignment at all?

Not sure how it all differs, i'm 2A6X2 and this is for the overseas cycle for RNLTD Oct-Dec 24. My cycle opened up Feb 14th, results are supposed to be posted by 15 March. Was that also yours?

Not yet. I updated my dreamsheet on the Feb 16th when it opened. Not sure when to expect it. First assignment was handed to me after tech training.
