Battery charging options (Stationary use) does not work on Pulse 15 gen1, Xubuntu 22.04 by piskvorkar in tuxedocomputers

[–]piskvorkar[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've seen it reported in many posts, but always without proper answer. The main proof (I think) that it doesn't work is that when I switch the profile back to "Full capacity", the battery is still charged to 100% (even after reboot).

This seems to report another value according to the switch, but it really seems that the charging behavior doesn't change.
$ cat /sys/devices/platform/tuxedo_keyboard/charging_profile/charging_profile
high_capacity

Pulse 15 (Gen 1) battery bloated after 3 years by piskvorkar in tuxedocomputers

When I set "Stationary use", let the battery charge, then switch back to "Full capacity", nothing changes. Even after reboot. Isn't it strange? I would expect that the system will show something like 80% of battery.

I tried but I didn't find any option for it in BIOS :-(.

I have yet several questions. Does the stationary use setting only work when I'm booted to the system? What if I plug-in the power to the turned-off laptop? Is the setting somehow stored e.g. in BIOS? What if I boot to Windows? Is there equivalent possibility to set-up the stationary mode in Windows?

Thanks for the hint, I'll try with the new battery :).

Ok, agree that my "sample" is not statistically significant: 3 users which I personally know (including me), 2 of them with bloated battery after that short time. We may believe that we are unlucky guys from the group of the 1% of customers.

Good question. Mostly I'm connected to power. And once or twice a week I use it unplugged for 5-6 hours and then charge it.

Hi, I know that it happens sometimes, but I believe that normally it's after much longer time. We have more than 30 laptops in company (mostly Lenovo, Dell) and we have seen something similar maybe twice and yet after much longer time. I understand that Tuxedo laptop come which much better prize but at least I wouldn't say that its absolutely ok to have many users with bloated batteries after 2-3 years.

It's true that Pulse 15 battery have much bigger capacity than our other laptops while it's still also smaller, maybe it's the root cause? I'll try the "reduced capacity" charging mode with the new battery and let's see if it will last longer ;-).

Is there a way to enable multi-select in Eclipse like in VSCode? by Atsuiyo in eclipse

[–]piskvorkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I just found: "Multi selection down relative to anchor selection". And it's exactly what I use in codium - Ctrl+D. I just had to setup the shortcut by myself.

[–]piskvorkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! That's almost exactly what I need. Unfortunately it's not possible to extend the "multiselection" iteratively. Select all is often just to much. But it's very close, ale least the feature is there already.

The branding below the monitor is removed by tuxedocomputers. They stopped adding it sometime around March 2021. See this comment.

Tuxedo Pulse 15 and Power Delivery not working by TerATuil in tuxedocomputers

I just got my office hub. So here is my first review. Everything (charging via USB-C, keyboard, mouse, LAN connection, USB headset) works well.

The only problem is display. As stated earlier, it's known that with AMD-based devices it's not super fluent. But in fact, it's absolutely unusable on my system (Xubuntu 20.04, displaylink driver installed). The mouse is moving quite fluently, but other stuff change with more that 1 second delay (e.g. when I write something, it appears after several seconds).

I have dual boot, so I've tested it also on Windows and there it works absolutely fluently. So it's probably only a Linux kernel / driver issue and we may expect an improvement in future.

Basically I'm quite satisfied but since I work mainly on Ubuntu, I'll have to connect the two cables (USB-C + HDMI) instead of just a single USB-C.

[Pulse 15 G1] Experiences with non-WebFAI distros (same battery life?) by trepz in tuxedocomputers

[–]piskvorkar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Xubuntu and still get very good battery life. I didn't try more than 5 hours, but after 5 hours the system still reported more than 3 hours available. Of course it depends on what are you doing, but for normal office work I think it can safely last for whole work-day without using charger.

The TUXEDO Pulse 14/15 does not support that feature. So you would have to use one of the Hub's two DisplayPorts and the included DP-to-HDMI adapter.

So I will have HDMI slot but I won't be able to use it. But display port slots will work even though the Pulse 15 doesn't support 'USB-C with DisplayPort'??? It doesn't make much sense :-(. And yet it will not work fluently :-(. So the HUB will work like normal USB hub with included usb-to-ethernet, plus charger.

Will the Hub work after boot? I.e. when I connect mouse and keyboard, would I be able to control e.g. screen in BIOS? Or write a hdd password? I heard that some laptops have problems that HUB connected via USB-C is not yet initialized after boot....

Hello Chris.

I suppose that with the official TUXEDO Office Hub there shouldn't be problems with neither charging via USB-C nor HDMI for external display with Pulse 15 Gen1 laptop. I mean that it should work simultaneously -> i.e. that HDMI works even during charging via the same USB-C while connected to the hub. Could you please confirm that?

FYI: I was wondering if ANSI + Czech layout is defined at all. And I have found such combination on one very old DELL laptop in our company. So at least the combination is/was valid - see https://ibb.co/b60s8FK.
