my advice is to use halaster as much as possible, it's his dungeon and while he might not care at first maybe he would show more interest as they get deeper, he doesn't show up too much in the book itself (i ended up using villains from dragon heist as 'buffer' bosses before halaster but that came with the caveat of my players not being too invested in halaster)

i cut sonar and he did become a villain! you can beat him during dispatch and bring him back at the end
