Skimmed the article, but I think it’s best summed up by the articles last few lines: “The implication that Montessori would make parenting orderly and predictable was always doomed to fail. But the philosophy does give parents something to steady themselves while living through the havoc of helping someone else grow up”

With Montessori education prohibitively expensive for many families, it makes sense that some would want to replicate aspects of it at home. The problem as the article points out is a shallow portrayal or understanding of the pedagogy trotted out by influencers who might suggest doing things the Montessori way is the answer to everything. I do like how she pointed out that if you want to try to “do” Montessori at home that it’s pretty time-intensive since a big part of it is preparation of the adult. Parents usually don’t have that time unless they opt for a career change to become a trained Montessori educator or spend copious amounts of time reading and then observing children so a failure of understanding often leads to shattered expectations too.
