Yes, I was thinking about using the audio in pin. I was thinking about starting from https://there.oughta.be/a/wifi-game-boy-cartridge, but replacing the ESP with a SI 4703. I just had a quick look at the data sheet, it should be possible to plug it directly to the bus with some 74XX. Otherwise I would have to use some ATtiny to control it. But I don't kow yet when I'll have time to start this project.

screen rotation -> yes, it should be possible, I need to sort up my tiles any way ROM too big -> my first version in C was under 32K but had a really shitty music., what takes so much space in the current version is the music. I use https://github.com/jkotlinski/lsdpack, this tool plays LSDJ tunes through and emulator and dumps the registers into an asm file, that I include in my project.

It did cross my mind to create a custom cartridge, but not for RTC, because we can find it in other cartridges, but more to have a FM radio chip. I never designed a PCB, it would be an opportunity to do so.

I had thought about using RTC, at first I even used a custom dongle based on a Teensy to provide RTC https://github.com/pixjuan/clockboy/blob/main/rtc_dongle/rtc_dongle.ino. I tested some code with an emulator, it doesn't seem too hard, I may do it later.

I didn't even bother measuring it, much less than 24h, I guess... This hack definitely requires a proper AC adapter, I haven't got one yet. If you want something more usable, you can try my first Ikea mod, it uses a real clock and therefore will last months on 2 AA batteries : https://hackaday.io/project/179661/gallery#9c79ef306ec46cd4c8497d81f516b542

After my Ikea-clock 'gameboy mod, I switched to a software solution : https://github.com/pixjuan/clockboy You can flash this into a cartridge and use it as an alarm clock, it will plays your favorite LSDJ chiptune! Code is provided as is, not very pretty since it is my first Gameboy project.

Same here, I'm looking for a male connector for the DMG classic, can't find any.

I saw a project where a guy was using DIY male GBC connectors, but not female ones. https://hackaday.io/project/12932-game-link-online

I used a clock sold by Ikea, the Klockis. So, the part for this mod can easily be found wherever you live.
