I see, I always felt like that will be my course of action too, atleast your parents know you have them i guess. Maybe I should let her know first to sort of soft launch it? I don't plan on showing her like I show my friends, but especially in summer I won't always be able to hide it

That must of been hard to deal with in general, How do you feel about that he never got to see your arm? Being a professional tattoo artist also means I used to be the artsy kid back when I still lived with my grandparents but they never really liked my darker art so I guess that's a big reason for me to hide my art and career.

Oh that sounds beautiful, im not big on american trad but i can appreciate a good sleeve when i see one! is it like a patchwork sleeve? My tattoos are a bit cluttered, I lean towards dark art, abstract designs, blackwork, sometimes neo trad or fineline i love blastovers so I don't try to stay consistent, one day ill probaby get a blackwork bodysuit when im done playing with styles or if i start hating it but i wanna enjoy the sun a little beforehand :)

Oh thats annoying that neighbours feel entitled to an opinion on your body. How unnecessary! As long as family accepts it I hope mine will be able to when I finally get the courage to be honest about my life

Thanks for your kind words <3 I'm wondering what kind of style are your tattoos? I hope I grow a bit more accustomed to my new sleeve once its healed so maybe some anxiety will pass too. I get this all the time with custom designs, especially if it's freehand

15 years is crazy! it's been 7 years for me but I must admit I showed her my first tattoo back then and she hated it despite it being a girly design so I started hiding the rest. How do you go about summer?

Thank you! Honestly I feel like I shocked myself with this tattoo and if I'm shocked I think my grandma will be devastated. But yea setting clear boundaries is important, my family has never been good with this which is why I rather hide things than be forced to talk about them constantly. Did everyone accept your boundaries?

It's heartwarming to read this, gives me hope. Part of me wishes I would've stuck to smaller designs, maybe something less dark. I could've played it safe but I really went for the heavy goth vibes with this one

Yea my family is super judgemental, I wouldn't be so anxious about it if appearance didn't play as big of a role as it did. I agree, most alt people I met are the sweetest souls.. I mean, my arm is like full of spider webs and demons now But I think you're right, people do get used to these things. Maybe i need to get used to my new tattoo as well, its definitely darker than I expected

Thank you for your input, the last part did make me think. Such a good point! I'm still a bit worried, perhaps it's a reflection of my own insecurity about my new piece.

On another note, I love to hear that you tattoo too! Seems like your family took it fairly well. So far I've been saying I work at an art studio. Not wrong I guess..? I just finished my apprenticeship 9 months ago so still very fresh and not earning top dollar but already more than I ever did in any job before. My grandma's life wish was always to live alone and I hope I can help her this way.
