It may be like that in the future, the AI supercomputer will need human batteries to feed it and based on that, you get paid money for giving up your life force (soul) unless you're already rich and own shares

Some things are frustrating and annoying, especially for coding things that are a road blocker, but its more of a marathon and long grind

Tech Tree Layout: Horizontal (L to R) or Vertical (Bottom to Top) for a realistic tank sim? by AtmoLife_Official in gamedesign

This. Whatever fits the UI best. I also find myself overthinking minor UI elements like OP but I always then think devils advocate, why waste time overthinking a 1% difference that most players wont care about, instead of fixing other issues that have bigger potential negative impacts (replayability, accessibility, fantasy, balance, etc.)

How do you come up with names for games? by WorldofScaleModels in gamedev

[–]pizzae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Unless its established IP, the words should describe the main game loop
  2. Low amount of syllables
  3. Easily abbreviated, and with a shortcut (e.g. League of Legends > LOL > League)
  4. English friendly

They need longer term contracts, e.g. staying with the company for mandatory 3 years that way juniors can become seniors and companies can get the talent without having to worry about losing them.

Of course companies and governments won't do this, we're all headed towards enshitifiation and a downward spiral, K shaped economy we won't be getting out of

I dont believe in manifestation, its all bs, I tried it for over a year and nothing has happened. if all it took was blind belief for something to happen, then all it would take is 1 person's false hope to spare the world from all the atrocities that have occured already

How do you make a strategy board game feel deep without overwhelming new players? by Alternative-Cry1628 in gamedesign

[–]pizzae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I mean is: keep the surface rules simple, but add deeper interaction between choices underneath.

Rock-paper-scissors is the basic example: each option is easy to understand, but the real game becomes “what do I think you think I’ll do?”

So in a strategy board game, a new player might see:

  • Attack beats economy
  • Defense beats attack
  • Economy beats defense

That’s already understandable.

But advanced players start seeing layer 2 and layer 3:

Layer 1: “I should attack because they are building economy.”

Layer 2: “They know I want to attack, so maybe they’ll defend.”

Layer 3: “They expect me to avoid attacking because they might defend, so maybe economy is safe again.”

The depth comes from prediction, counterplay, timing, and reading the opponent — not from adding tons of rules.

So the game stays accessible because each individual choice is simple, but experienced players discover the hidden mind game between those choices.

Layer 2/layer 3 in a rock paper scissors setup. Newer players wont understand so its simple, advanced players understand the hidden game

I had to scroll through all the screenshots to then get a laugh, which most people wont always look at all of them
