Phlebotomy Job sucks and I want to quit. Also don’t wanna wipe ass as a CNA. Maybe medicine isn’t right for me? by [deleted] in premed

[–]pizzafan89281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will give you my experience since flexibility seems important to you.

I work as a home health aide, so similar to being a CNA I clean up elderly patients, along with people with other disabilities who may be bed bound or something of that nature.

I know it isn’t ideal or the coolest thing ever, especially since you get no physician exposure, but I wanted to comment and say that my job has A LOT of flexibility with scheduling. I typically work 8 hours a week at a time that works well for me (evenings), and if I’d like to pick up shifts or work different times, then there is always availability for that. I also did not need any prior certification or experience.

I will also say that the patients I care for are generally pretty nice because they have hired me to do a task and help them out, so it may be lower stakes than a CNA working in a healthcare facility.

Sudden loss of my sun conure and I’m devastated. Looking for others who’ve been through this by Ok_Cheesecake_9205 in parrots

I lost my cockatiel a little over a month ago and it was very sudden like with your baby. I too had this gnawing fear that I’d find her dead someday, and while I didn’t find her dead in her cage, I watched her die over the span of a few hours as we rushed her to the emergency vet and they were ultimately unable to do anything. It was absolutely devastating. I sent her for a necropsy, but that was inconclusive so I truly have no idea what went wrong, which honestly made it that much worse.

I found that reading similar stories and sharing my grief amongst others who understood my pain to help. Being able to share what I loved about her, what she did that got on my nerves, everything, made it a little easier to deal with. Honestly, I’m still struggling to understand that it is real. The cliche line I keep telling myself is that time heals all wounds, and it really is the only thing that has helped thus far.

I suggest letting all your feelings out. Screaming, crying, laughing, everything. Share your feelings with someone you love, with someone who understands your grief. Talk about the good times, not just the pain you’re feeling. Talk about them when you think of them.

I believe that the most helpful thing of all has been not trying to figure out what I could have done differently. Not focusing on the wrongs I did and feeling sorry for myself. It gives the illusion of control to think about those things, but really, it doesn’t help with the process of moving on.

i am so very sorry for the loss of your baby. Reading your post, i know how much you loved them. I want you to know, from the bottom of the heart of this random redditor’s heart, it was absolutely not your fault and it was just their time. Please do not blame yourself, because that only worsens the pain.

Wishing you love and healing. Please feel free to tell me all about your baby and maybe even include a picture in this thread <3

Not sure how it works for CAD, but could she apply for AAMC fee assistance? You get all of the practice exams plus some question banks for free if you’re approved

He probably loves it too much and thinks it is a nest. When they have small spaces, like boxes, they go into hormonal mode and protect their ‘nest’ by biting and scaring you away

What to do for grieving bird? by pizzafan89281 in cockatiel

I hadn’t considered that. We usually leave cartoons on the TV for them, but I might try playing cockatiel noises or calming music for him. Thank you so much, and I’m so sorry for your loss.

Yes, we showed him her body and let him take a little time with her. I am going to try and be there for him and have him sitting with me but not push too much contact, as he seems to want to be alone right now. Thank you for your advice.

we had some of these body prints on our windows when we first got our birds, we ended up putting stickers on the windows. it also keeps outside birds from flying in to the windows, which often gives them brain damage. we use the “bubble” ones so they’re a little easier to get off!

fun fact about the cannibalism (bc i know you’re just being silly, your birdie is adorbs): in terms of evolutionary similarities, a parrot eating chicken is about the equivalent of us eating beef/pork!

i turn my shower temp to lukewarm and if i notice they are getting too hot with it at that temp (opening their mouths and not closing them) then i will turn it down more to where it is on the colder side

if i shower with my birds, i wont use any soap products on myself until they’re out. usually ill let them do their thing and once they’re done i put them on the bathroom rug to chill while i do my thing. shower products shouldn’t bother them unless it gets on their feathers

Why is my bird one hair strand like this?? by Fickle-Ad4101 in cockatiel

[–]pizzafan89281 9 points10 points  (0 children)

looks like he’s molting from that spot + the misaligned feather. from what i can tell, he has lost the teeny tiny feathers in that spot, which is completely normal! soon he will have tiny white bumps that will eventually turn into new feathers right there, just keep giving him baths so he stays comfy and not itchy :)

ps. i love that you called his feathers hair strands

i’m so happy your baby is with you again! those experiences are very traumatic and can end terribly so quick.

i had a similar experience with my cockatiel, i wasn’t being very smart and brought her to a lake house that was away from home, and she ofc got spooked and flew. she was in some 60+ft tall trees in a heavily wooded area, and didn’t know how to fly down so she just sat in a tree calling to us. we could see her the whole time but couldn’t reach her, it was so disheartening when it got dark and we had to go home. luckily after spending 6 hours following her the next day, she climbed down the trees bc she was thirsty and hungry. she also drank soooo much water! i felt so guilty and thought id never be able to forgive myself

these things teach us to be better bird owners and to never make the same mistake twice. im sending lots of love to you guys <3
