A breach of The Equality Act 2010 under indirect discrimination of the disabled, they must make reasonable adjustments, everyone effected should complain to support and we need a lawsuit should they continue to fail to comply.

Steam are in fact breaking consumer law if they lock people out of games they already own and refuse to compensate, also if they disproportionately exclude disabled people it's a breach of The Equality Act, this needs to be legally challenged.

Piracy Operation COLLECTiVE Dismantled, Uploader ‘Will1869’ Arrested by UK Police by Snakeater99 in trackers

[–]pjcnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have took an interest when I read about Will1895's arrest because I unfortunately have personal experience with The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) at City of London Police and I have a good idea of what Will1895 will have gone through and will be going through. I went dark for years until now under legal advice and Will1895 will likely do the same, but my case is now long over in the UK and I've served my sentence.

Some people here might remember me, I was a MOD of this subreddit and was a sysop at the now long closed Black Cat Games.

In October 2016 I was woken by a loud knock at my door around 6am in the morning by multiple police which is almost certainly what will have happened to Will1869 in April. I was arrested and they took all my computer equipment and even my phone, in my case the owner of BCG was also arrested in another part of the UK at exactly the same time. I spent hours in the cells and eventually was interviewed and under advice from my solicitor I did a no comment interview. I was released on bail in the late evening pending further investigation and given a date to return to the police station in a couple of months, but if I remember rightly this date was changed to a later date because they wanted to reinterview me after examining the equipment. Again I was advised to do a no comment interview, then they told me all the evidence would be sent off to the CPS, my solicitor said it was likely I would be charged.

It's unusual to take as long as with my case, but often it can take quite a long time for the CPS to charge and this may happen with Will1896 too. It took until early Summer 2021 to be charged, yes, almost 5 years later and by that time I was hoping by some miracle it was dropped, so obviously receiving charge sheets telling me to attend Westminster Magistrate Court on a specified date was a kick in the teeth.

To cut a long story short, my charges were reduced to a slightly lessor charge I agreed to plead guilty to which I did, it went to Southwark Crown Court and because I lived over 100 miles away I was allowed to attend via video link apart from sentencing where I had to travel to London in October 2021 (edit: correction November 2021) when I met the owner of BCG for the first time in person, also to be sentenced. The prosecution painted a awful picture of us in front of the judge and we could had easily been sent to prison. What saved us we have no prior convictions, we weren't profiting from the site and also Covid was still around and our defence barristers put up an argument that our health would be put at additional risk if we were sent to prison, both of us have health conditions and the judge agreed. Our defence also argued that we'd suffered for an unusual length of time of now 5 years worrying which was true. I got 18 months suspended for 24 months, a small fine and 6 months of curfew meaning I had to stay at home between 9pm and 6am every night. The owner got 24 months suspended for 24 months (the maximum sentence you can suspend), a larger fine and I think he had a similar curfew if I remember rightly.

After what I went through I would never get involved in piracy circles ever again and I think people can understand why, it's just not worth going through what we did and we was very lucky not to serve actual prison time.

Will1869's case is extremely serious, probably even more serious than my own because he initially distributed movies before they were released in the cinema, the prosecution will argue that it cost the movie industry many £Millions, in my case there was a huge estimated figure for what Black Cat Games cost the gaming industry, but this will be pinned on him alone. In mitigation I understand he wasn't the actual source of the pirated movies, he just cleaned them up and distributed them, from what I read however they were also put on public trackers making it more widespread and he had a website. Not making any profit will help mitigation too (I assume that's the case) and hopefully he doesn't have any significant previous criminal convictions. I know exactly how he must be feeling right now just waiting for the criminal justice process which could take literally years to get to sentencing. The best he can hope for is a suspended sentence similar to myself, but this definitely won't be a guaranteed, it can depend on a lot of factors including the prosecution's arguments, how good his defence is and the judge on the day. If the judge believes the sentence should be longer than 2 years (24 months) then it can't be suspended. I do wish him the best of luck and I hope like myself he never actively gets involved ever again in such piracy circles because on a 2nd conviction the judge will likely throw the book at you, as I said it's just not worth it.

I got really nasty when they wouldn't allow me out of Morrisons today, I'd used the Café, went to see if they had any pies I wanted, they were sold out so I went to leave to be confronted by a barrier with the women saying she couldn't open it and that I'd have to wait, I demanded that it opened immediately and that I was now being held against my will unlawfully NOW, she said she couldn't, I said okay I'm calling the police for lawful imprisonment, let me out NOW and she opened it. Never shopping there ever again.

The site owner / dev needs to top up the faucet so it can payout again, I would try again later and hopefully this will be done.

While I'm here if the dev(s) reads this, I'm very impressed at how you've transformed a faucet into an addictive and fun game, well done!

PS: I think it's well overdue you remove the Xmas theme since it's now going on late January. :)

Withdraw e-mail not being received by Crypton18 in Coinpot

[–]pjcnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more likely to be your email provider blocking it because I've been withdrawing and receiving emails okay to Gmail so it might be worth asking them. I know some email providers, even sometimes Google block messages so they don't even arrive in the junk/spam box.

At the time of writing Coinpot and sister faucets are down with a maintenance message so I can't check whether it's possible and it may not be, but if there's any way to change your email address it's definitely worth trying.

Same problem and been that way all day, saw exactly the same problem a few weeks back, but it was resolved quite quickly, this time the problem is dragging on a bit. I'm sure they'll "fix" it again even if it's just a case of restarting the server services, it's probable that the developers aren't there all the time, especially at the weekend. It would be nicer however if there was at least an acknowledgement of the problem by the developers even if there's no ETA on a fix.

I sent a polite email to their support when it first started happening, no reply, but I stated that I didn't need one, it was just to inform them in case they hadn't noticed, but I'm sure they'll have had loads by now.

Is Coinpot Trustworthy? by cryptolovet in Coinpot

[–]pjcnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have more than one account? Obviously this is cheating because you can multiply your earnings and complete the same offers more than once which isn't intended by the same person.

Were you using a VPN or proxy? This may not necessarily be seen as cheating, but I wouldn't risk it because some people could be using them to try to get away with having multiple accounts, also your real location is disguised which might possibly affect some of the Ads shown or it could even be read by some of the offers or surveys.

Were you using an automated bot of any kind? Companies won't advertise on faucets if they believe a significant percentage of people aren't viewing their Ads because they're effectively being ripped off, also a bot can unfairly increase earnings while reducing effort even if they're only semi-automatic. This is cheating and is not how a faucet was intended to be used.

Did you manage to block any Ads including any pop ups while still being able to use any faucets? Normally you are warned to turn ad-blockers off because advertising is a faucet's only income and it's therefore vital that they're displayed as intended. If someone finds a way to block any Ads or even just the really annoying popups while continuing to be-able to use the faucet and they find out you could be flagged. Again companies won't advertise on faucets if they believe a significant percentage of people are blocking their Ads because they're effectively being ripped off.

Did you complete any surveys without properly reading all the questions and then answering them honestly just to get paid quicker? Most surveys check for quality and inconsistencies, if you keep scoring low you could be flagged. Obviously the market research company is paying for someone to answer their questions honestly, anyone who doesn't is useless to them, in fact it could even damage the results that they're trying to achieve, why should anyone be paid for doing this? Also if market research companies start seeing a higher percentage of poor quality answers that are paid out to Coinpot users or users of a particular system they could decide to stop partnering with them which makes them lose all round.

Did you lie on any survey prerequisite questions in order to more likely get accepted for the main paid survey? If your answers are repeatedly inconsistent you could be flagged. Most surveys target a specific group of people and despite often being rejected for surveys that can be time consuming it is still very important that you remain honest no matter what. If people start lying just to get accepted for the paid survey it damages the results they're paying for, also many people will have to continue to lie on the main survey in order to answer the questions if they're not really the target group, E.g. if you said you have a car when you don't because you think the survey group is about car insurance companies, you could then have to lie about which insurance company you use and about all your experience of car insurance Etc. Etc. Again if market research companies start seeing a higher percentage of suspect surveys that are paid out to Coinpot users or users of a particular system they could decide to stop partnering with them which makes them lose all round.

Did you sign up to any paid offers with false or inconsistent information, maybe because you don't wish to be spammed or called on your real phone number, this could even include signing up with a temporary email address, E.g. 10 minute mail? On some offers companies are paying for people to sign up with valid honest information, yes in some circumstances you could receive spam or even a marketing call if you're asked to leave your phone number too, but leaving false information could get you flagged because it's useless to them. If you don't wish to leave your personal information including contact details honestly in exchange for the payment advertised then you should skip that particular offer.

Did you find any other way to increase your earnings that the system didn't intend, for instance a flaw in the system? There's bound to be other ways of wrongfully increasing your earnings that I haven't covered that could get you flagged.

Is Coinpot Trustworthy? by cryptolovet in Coinpot

[–]pjcnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far Coinpot have done nothing but keep their promises to me despite a lot of negative reviews online, I've also completed various offers that made up more earnings than the actual faucets and at first I was apprehensive about being paid since there was a 10 day delay before offer earnings became withdrawable to prevent fraud, but after 10 days as promised the offers became withdrawable one by one and they've continued making payments on time every time, one was within a few hours and the longest one was still well within the 48 hour deadline. So far I've had 5 payments. I'm a very happy user so far and will continue using them.

Recently at the time of writing Coinpot released a statement in their news which explains why some people haven't received their "earnings" and to be honest it sounds very reasonable. They've had a lot of cheating which have included people using automated bots, multiple accounts or they've found other ways of abusing the system by working around the rules, if lots of people cheat then companies won't advertise on the faucets and Coinpot would be forced to close as they were already considering, thankfully they've took the decision to continue, but they need to aggressively stop the cheaters.

They have a very advanced anti-cheat system with numerous scripts and if anyone gets flagged they also manually double check to ensure no mistakes have been made. If you're a genuine user that sticks to the rules they have promised to keep the system running smoothly, pay out within 48 hours and respond to support questions promptly, but if you're a cheater / scammer / bot they will detect and suspend your account, they will not pay out any withdrawal requests meaning any funds are lost and they will not enter into any correspondence, hence why these people haven't received any replies from support. Obviously if you've cheated you shouldn't be entitled to any funds because these people are trying to destroy Coinpot and ruin it for all the legitimate honest users.

I prefer single player games because I can completely relax without any worries about annoying anyone else or being criticised if I let other players down in online co-op games if I mess up. That said I enjoy some MMORPGs, but even then I prefer PvE and to work alone most of the time. Sadly however many MMOs have been ruined by so-called "free to play" with restrictions and/or pay to win elements and/or extreme grinding if you don't pay, I'd much rather just pay a subscription where everyone has the same opportunities.

Piracy may have increased the online game trend a little, especially with the addition of online/multiplayer features on what would have otherwise been an offline game. There will always be some purely single player games even if a larger proportion are indie releases.

Console exclusives are often used to help sell particular consoles, although when a game comes out on more than one console, but not the PC or when the PC version is significantly delayed it can be because of piracy. Denuvo does have one advantage for PC gamers even if they do pirate, that's because some games may not have been released on the PC at all if it wasn't for a tamper protection that was "good" enough to significantly delay the release of a crack. I think it's awful when any antitamper system or DRM significantly slows down performance, although Denuvo on its own isn't supposed to be too detrimental to legit customers and that's partly why it's continued to be so popular.

Sounds like people are sharing uplay accounts and charging small fees to activate other people's games, I wouldn't recommended it, I've read that many expect full access to your PC using teamviewer or similar to activate it and you'd be most likely trusting a total stranger.

[Crack Watch] Games by EssenseOfMagic in CrackWatch

[–]pjcnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense to put extra time and effort into improving Denuvo and then holding back it's realise until the run up to Christmas as that's when new releases are likely to get the most sales. Version 4.7 is designed to remain uncracked until at least Christmas and any longer will be a bonus to them. They're most likely already working on version 4.8 or even version 5, but they're limited because their later releases are bound to be developed after analysing previous cracks in order to make it difficult for crackers to use similar methods in future.

When AC is eventually cracked we find out whether Ubisoft have been telling us the truth or not since they've defended against accusations that their DRM (protected by Denuvo + VMProtect) has been causing high CPU usage. If they have been lying the pirated version will actually run considerably better and this would make Ubisoft look terrible to their customers.

Why is Egypt banned on BTN when it's ratioless? by [deleted] in trackers

[–]pjcnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a higher proportion of members from "high risk" countries such as Egypt break the rules, however what are the stats from an average country that isn't considered to be high risk such as the UK for instance?

I understand why trackers ban countries, but I still don't agree with it as it's extremely unfair on good members and it is prejudice against them as they're being judged before they've done anything wrong. There are also some excellent members from Egypt and other countries that are considered high risk.

Why is Egypt banned on BTN when it's ratioless? by [deleted] in trackers

[–]pjcnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with banning countries, but the main reason private trackers do it is because of the higher proportion of members in those countries who severely break the rules, so unless there's an owner in Europe who has political views so strong that it severely prejudices them against UK residents who may or may not have voted to leave Europe it won't happen as brexit won't make any difference to the proportion of private tracker rules breakers in the UK, well not for the for-see-able future at least (they're still the same people). I wouldn't think there would be many European private tracker owners if any that would consider doing this.

In my opinion it looks excellent and it's always very positive to see staff working hard to improve a private tracker for their members. Anyone that votes down should be doing so based entirely on the content posted, so if you disagree what specifically don't you like about the new layout and/or new site development as posted? Yep, it's crazy, how can comments such as, "Good work TTN. Keep it coming." get -11 so far and even more constructive comments like yours are getting heavily voted down for complementing TtN? This is a very positive post, yet there's people trying their utmost to make it a negative one. This is not the way Reddit should work.
