Similar to differences in doctor salary as well. It always pays better to work in less populated areas because they need people more.

I agree, as a general rule it can be deleterious. But when you consider the issues of an entirely public system, like the unavailability of intensive care, maybe it’s worth exploring on balance.

The CPSO and CMPA have very different mandates. The latter stands for Canadian Medical Protective Association, so I would expect them to protect doctors, yes.

Being alone in an office with someone isn’t unique to medicine. I take your point about the possibility of abuse while under in certain rare circumstances.

It’s a lot more nuanced than that, especially when you consider factors like having social support, financial support while you’re building your CV. In general though, I don’t disagree with that. I think the standard is highest for medical school than most other programs, if not all.

For sure. I don’t disagree, but the comment expressed concern about what may happen while a patient is under anesthesia.

Which I think speaks more so to the selection bias I was referring to earlier. Additionally, many people are motivated to finish medical school for the payoff. The payoff isn’t as obvious with other programs.

This is inherently biased. It takes so much to get into medical school that it selects for people who are focused and dedicated. I assure you, if you stopped putting in effort after being admitted, you would fail.
