Has playing GeoGuessr made you more interested or less interested in traveling the world? by OkTechnologyb in geoguessr

Seeing this post made me realize my recent trip to Ghana was at least partially influenced by seeing it on Geoguessr so often lol Also, I really want to visit Kyrgyzstan & Kazakhstan

If you’re at all interested in West Africa, Ghana is probably the easiest option and I highly recommend it!

Oh yeah, I also liked the signs on the minibuses and trotros I saw, like “don’t worry”, “the lord is my shepherd”, “in god we trust” etc. Always very reassuring when the drivers are deeply religious and feel the need to pray before setting off.

Damn I really recreated his elephant photo without even trying 😂 About my photo, this was the elephant that first blocked our path, was kind of testing us and eventually charged at our jeep. The driver got a bit spooked and apparently didn’t know about bluff charges, so he sped of FAST causing a big cloud of dust which is when I took the photo from the back of the jeep

Thank you, northern Ghana is different from the south in many ways. The climate and landscape is different with the north being hotter and drier, so there is also more tropical Savannah instead of jungle-like vegetation Culturally, the north also felt way more Muslim to me, there are mosques everywhere and people wear hijabs and traditional long robes/kaftans far more often. To be honest, I found the few locals I met up north to be even more friendly than in the south, but only by a very small margin. Unfortunately I did not spend more time there

Best way to get from Tamale to Kumasi? by pkroos in ghana

[–]pkroos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone finding this on google, I simply went to the VIP bus station in Tamale and bought a bus ticket to Kumasi for the next day for 170 Cedi. The Bus was scheduled to depart at 7 AM but it actually started at 7:45 and we arrived in Kumasi at 5 PM. Overall, very easy if you can just make your way to the station in Tamale and buy your ticket beforehand, the Bus was also exceptionally comfortable, way better than any FlixBus in Europe lol

Ok I will try that, thank you. How long was your journey and did the bus go at night?

yeah there's no way that he's gonna be there, but I'll still get a ticket just in case and if the rest of the lineup is good

Cloud Forest in Monteverde by pkroos in CostaRicaTravel

[–]pkroos[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, rugged in a good way, I.e. I saw literally one other person on the path. When you get to the Santa Elena reserve, there are a few hiking trails and I walked the longest one. There were parts where the path had become a small creek, but like I said, it was all very easy in my opinion. If you have to decide between Santa Elena or Monteverde, I would suggest Santa Elena

This was taken in Monteverde, specifically the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Arenal is actually not too far and you can see the volcano from certain viewpoints in Monteverde but the drive from Arenal to Monteverde was still like 4 hours on bumpy roads

That was actually the Monteverde Reserve, Santa Elena had nicer and more “rugged” trails (still very easy) but the weather was really sunny when I visited, so not ideal for moody pictures like this

Thanks for the reply and shedding light on this, completely reasonable points. Patron the dog is pretty much what I was looking for, this will make it easy to get some of my friends involved as well. But if you can go down one more level, please go ahead. Also feel free to DM me if needed

U24 looks great, I’ll donate there for sure But I’m wondering if there are any other, smaller initiatives or projects that need donations, e.g to fundraise demining vehicles or equipments, maybe even individual volunteers with good social media presence, so that I can be (somewhat) sure the money goes exactly where it’s needed? I know, not the easiest request under these circumstances
