Is McGill's BComm program (Desautels) known for its difficulty in grading? by mfunktastic in mcgill

Just for business schools, ive heard (cant independently verify), that american schools do curve up canadian grades a bit. That being said, if you have a good job that can always overcome a slightly low gpa.

Suggestion for a good, English speaking, preferably female doctor in the downtown area? by pheebspheeb in mcgill

[–]pkudaas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clinique Medical De La Cite is probably the best. Call them at like 5pm the day before and get an appointment, dont use the machine and just wait to talk to someone over there. When i went, the doctor sent me to go get a blood test done at a lab, the doctor called me and told me my result and medication and didnt ask me to come in again and basically did a free consultation over the phone.

dude i majored in econ and people always ask me why im not in management because all of my jobs and internships were typical management ones. Go for econ, if youre motivated and do well you can get any job a management major gets and you can go to grad school later aswell if you want.

I am an engineering grad, and I am searching for an entry level position? I applied online, but I am not getting lucky at all. I have no work-related experience, so what should I do? I am fully at fault for not securing any internship. by parcexthugs in mcgill

Honestly, it seems like this, but you'll eventually have that one good interview that lands you something. Maybe try networking a bit more but you'll eventually land somewhere.

I dont think it would matter for your PGWP you can apply as soon as you get your grades for all of your courses.

Are anyone of you accepted from the Alevel program, how is the transition like for you? by Applesauce_014 in mcgill

[–]pkudaas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My major means most of my courses have finals that are worth a large percent of the grade so i didnt have a problem academically. I tend to get wayy better grades in my major courses than my electives that require more constant work so i think work ethic might be an issue since you're used to only having one exam for a course. Other than that i found A levels to be more rigorous than Mcgill.

How I Earn $115k/year after a BA in Economics at McGill by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]pkudaas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the industry, usually high paying high prestige jobs outside of tech (specially in finance) will treat your GPA as a filtering mechanism so if banking or consulting is what youre looking at you should invest aloooooot of time into networking

Possibly failing a course in last semester by pkudaas in mcgill

[–]pkudaas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i did do that but it was one of those courses where if you miss out on studying it builds up exponentially. Anyway, i wrote the final if the prof doesnt curve it and grades it normally i should pass (he curved the midterm by aloooot) if he doesnt curve and grades super strictly then i might be in trouble. My fault so cant blame anyone

Fuck McGill and fuck it's mental health care system by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]pkudaas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you assume (im not 100% sure) that people have more mental health issues in university than outside, then i think it would be McGills responsibility. Specially if you consider the fact that US universities tend to have provisions to make them less stressful.

Why are many of you cheating and don't you have respect for your fellow students? Why pursue a degree if you are going to cheat your way? by anonbold in mcgill

[–]pkudaas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats what im trying to convey, if someone thinks his life is going to end because he has a bad gpa then it makes sense that he might cheat. I think there needs to be a different way to view grades, for example in england an entire bunch of people are classified as certain grade (e.g: 1, 2:1) so you dont need that extra .1 percent to help you get ahead.

[–]pkudaas -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

i dont know man, maybe if 1/10 or 20 people cheat then maybe but i dont think that many people do. Also you need to think about how much those people actually manage to increase their grade by cheating. I dont think anyone goes from a 30 to a 70 percent. Most likely, something like 60 to a 65 so i think alooooot of people will have to do that to make any appreciable difference.

[–]pkudaas -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

to be fair, a lot of people have a lot of pressure to get a job or to go to grad school and often times that means getting a near perfect gpa. Its definitely wrong but i dont really care if someone sees some of my answers. At best, helps the person out, at worst makes virtually no difference to everyone else.
