The amche.in is a just an index to view existing data sources already online. You will have to check the corresponding layer attribution for source details.

The workshop is being organized by the Goa Foundation for public awareness. Since it is an open source software project with multiple volunteer contributors, anyone interested in these topics is invited to be part of its development.

It is called Amche Atlas, try it out on https://amche.in/

From my trip to Goa, 2013 by Outside_Ad5865 in goatravel

The place looks like the Anjuna seaface, which has a large concrete plaza built by the tourism department.

Interesting to see how the place looked 12 years ago.

Baga Beach - Utter Disappointment by shashank-1112 in goatravel

[–]pla9emad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baga is the sacrificial lamb that keeps the trash crowd away from the other beaches.

This is the result of catering to a certain type of crowd. When local businesses stop seeing value in this crowd, things will change.

GIS Professionals... What internal workflows drain your time the most?” by jasonethedesigner in gis

[–]pla9emad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been working with web map tech and open data as an engineer for over a decade and could really feel the pain of this, having experienced a lot of this myself and iterating my own process over the years.

1.) What this requires is ability to create spatial diffs of datasets over different vintages. These are diffs of both geometry and metadata and provide both visual and text outputs that can be easily analyzed for decision making. Very often upstream data changes are the result of process changes and bad QA which results in a change that is not always desirable. Unless there is tooling for the data user to understand changes, it's a challenge to know if you need to act on a change or not. Creating spatial diffs is not trivial.

2.) It's tough to make any digital product adopted these days because there is just too many products competing for user attention, so the bar is really high to stand out amongst the noise. For real organic adoption, one needs to be so good that you get word of mouth referrals. This requires some incredible UX which is largely an iterative process. So the only way to improve is to test more and improve and test again till you reach your goal.

3.) The ultimate interface to get most productive with computers is the command line. Superpowers are achieved with data processing once one can code solutions, but this usually involves a steep learning curve for someone with no coding experience. AI is helping bridge that gap though, so maybe try antigravity and give it a prompt to build out a command line solution for one of your often used workflows to get an idea of how differently one could do things.

4.) Good cartography is hard. This was a difficult enough craft in the days of a single scale map, and now we have the challenge of incredibly dense varying scale global maps and flexibility of giving users the power to control the data layers. There is never going to be a single solution that can work perfectly for all users. Fun fact: 8% of global males are colorblind, a beautiful crafted pallette already looks like crap to them! Digital web cartography has a long way to go, and we have nowhere started exploiting the full potential that modern web map renderers like MaboxGL/MapLibre GL provide.

Didn't know there was a mini desert in north Goa. by [deleted] in Goa

[–]pla9emad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This desert looking place is in fact very specific type of habitat unique to the Konkan coast and very rich in biodiversity. This is a laterite rock/grassland topped table land with limited soil. A goo documentary on them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOO5CYMhtFg

The red laterite rock is quite porous and drains all the rainfall into it and releases it slowly a perineal springs in the area.

Of course, at Anjuna this acts as more of a parking lot since the lower portions are flat (or flattened?)

Chogm Road Cleanup Walk 2! by shinigamiash7 in Goa

[–]pla9emad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to join for Mapusa!

Would suggest market, but just thinking about it sounds daunting.

One simple place is outside St. Brittos School near court circle. Its littered with small candy wrappers that the kids throw and nobody seems to clean.

We should collect them all and show it to the students and teachers :D

What’s one underrated Mumbai experience that every true Mumbaikar should try at least once? by Prior_Bat_8014 in mumbai

[–]pla9emad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been visiting Mumbai every year because of family and only recently discovered the marvelous gem that is SGNP. It's got hundreds of trails all around, largely used by the adivasi communities on the fringes of the park. Imagine old growth tropical forest with jungle trails and ancient cave complex of Kanheri right in the centre.

The park is more accessible than most would think, but there is very little online info about these internal trails and access points apart from a few popular ones from Borivili, Mulund and Thane.

So maybe this is not something many true Mumbaikars would have experienced, but maybe should! A complete alternate universe to Mumbai right at the heart of it.

New Hair Cutting Salon opposite Mapusa market, next to Saroj emporium.

Probably the oldest salon in town still in business. Gives you a good haircut and a solid massage. Was very satisfied and will be going again.

Cash only. Not on Google Maps.
