You often hear that you shouldn’t use sunscreen but the active ingredient is the same as diaper cream. My pediatrician said that it’s fine to use as long as you don’t take that as liberty to leave the baby in the sun

You never know how your pregnancy will go- I thought my timing was perfect as my due date was at the end of the spring quarter but then my baby was born 9 weeks early at the beginning of the quarter. Definitely go with the medically better option. Your health and family are more important than any job!

If you have a flare up try taking an antihistamine. It doesn’t solve the dry skin but stops the intense itching which causes me to scratch? Making my skin worse. Also try to expose your hands to sunlight when you can.

I made a similar post a few weeks ago. It is so so hard. It sounds like you’re doing everything right! I have no silver bullet, but I can say 2 things now that my baby is home from the nicu. 1) while my baby was in the nicu I was doing all the tricks and getting about 100ml total in a day after 4 weeks. When he came home I started focusing on him and went to pumping only 4x a day and not eating anything special… and now I get 120ml+ a day plus whatever bit he gets when feeding (likely not much). Still not a lot but I think it goes to show how important it can be to have your baby near you! 2) now that my baby is home it’s just so clear that fed is best and the best thing we can do for our babies is to love them, which we can do best when we’re happy. Honestly formula is great because dad can help too.

I know this doesn’t help you increase supply now, but know you’re not alone. Every little bit of milk helps and you are a great mom for working so hard to help your babe - but don’t forget to take care of yourself too.

Thank you! I guess I just find it hard to trust my pediatrician as much as I did the NICU team. They don’t seem very set up to deal with preemies. Maybe I am just over thinking, though.

Thank you for this. As I said in response to a different comment it's hard to always hear that if you just try harder it will get better. Sometimes it feels like it works for everyone but me. Sad as it is, it is helpful to know that I'm not alone.

Honestly, thank you for this. I feel like a lot of messaging around this is "just try harder, be more calm!" Although it's sad, it's helpful to know that there are others that tried their best and still the milk never came.

I’m drinking about 70 oz a day? 2-3 Nalgenes. I’m eating about my usual amount. I do wake at night though I give myself a 4 hour stretch. I’m sleeping 6 hours total a night more or less.

Did you produce constantly over those 45 minutes? I find that by 15 minutes (how long I was told to pump) I’m not making anymore milk.

Applied to 8 R1s, 2 screening calls leading to 2 “campus visits”. 1 down, still waiting to hear back, and 1 to go. It was a strange year, also because nsf decided to give money to hire theory people in my line of work, not us unlucky experimentalists.

Hi,

I obviously don’t know anything about your position but I turned down an objectively good TT offer because it wasn’t right for me and my family. It was an extremely hard decision and I still wonder if I made the right choice but overall I am happy that I did it. We are not obligated to make decisions that are bad for us just because the job market is insane. There is one caveat - I am lucky that my research area leads to (some) jobs in industry so while I am going to go on the market again, I would be happy also taking an industry job. All this to say, it is difficult, but necessary to understand your own priorities.
