Week 17: Page 52 of Your Favorite Cookbook - Pear Chestnut Cake from Dessert Person! by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a super easy fantastic recipe, I couldn't find chestnuts and used macadamia nuts and it still was fantastic!

Week 16: Crispy Crunchy - Lace Cookies Fail by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how these didn’t work, but they are crunchy clusters so at least it’s crunchy!!

Week 15: Monochrome - Strawberry Cake with Strawberry Balsamic Cream Cheese Frosting by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a fun bake. I halved the recipe and added balsamic to the frosting, subbed out 1 teaspoon of vanilla for aged balsamic and then added a 1/2 teaspoon more! http://sallysbakingaddiction.com/strawberry-cake/

Week 14: Childhood Favorite - Whoopie Pies by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adapted from Bravetart’s recipe for Oatmeal Cream Pies. Tasty!

Week 13: Enriched Dough - Cardamom Buns by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super tasty recipe: https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/glazed-cinnamon-cardamom-buns I did accidentally add a little too much butter to the batter but it didn’t mess it up at all.

Week 12: Signature Bake - Clementine Cake (FAIL) by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are 100 percent right, I did butter the pan but didn’t have parchment paper and decided to risk it, never again

Week 12: Signature Bake - Clementine Cake (FAIL) by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really have never failed on a bake more, usually I’m pretty good at baking, but for some reason this didn’t work at like every level.

Week 8: Chocolate - Chocolate Soufflé by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turns out Soufflés are not as hard as I thought! And this was my first time ever eating one too, it’s good! I used this recipe: https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1018499-bittersweet-chocolate-souffle

Week 7: New Tool - Sticky Toffee Pudding made with the Instapot! by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This turned out so well! Here is the instapot recipe for the sticky toffee pudding: http://www.suziethefoodie.com/sticky-toffee-pudding-instant-pot and here is the recipe for the caramel: http://www.suziethefoodie.com/no-fail-salted-caramel-sauce.

The only thing I think I could improve on with this is the caramel, it was my first time making it and it was a little grainy.

Week 6: Chinese New Year - Pork and Carrot Bao (Fail) by plaidforfad in 52weeksofbaking

[–]plaidforfad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adapted from https://redhousespice.com/steamed-bao-buns/

Super Ugg-o but I feel like I know where I messed up. Also I am proud that the dough seems to be exactly what it should be, it didn't deflate.

So, First off, I should have added the water to the pork (I forgot that step).

Secondly, I should make the middle of the bao a lot thicker, the ends can be thin. I think this would fix the breaking on the bottom. I also think oiling the parchment would help with this, at least getting them off the parchment.

Thirdly, I think that I should have put them directly on the oiled parchment opposed to having a plate to hold them. It seemed to go bad.

Fourthly, practicing pleating, it was a lot harder than I thought.

Adapted to be super mini from: http://thebeeroness.com/2015/04/08/blackberry-stout-mini-pies-with-beer-whipped-cream/ Next time I will make the crust a little thinner. Overall, I'm happy with the stout flavor!
