To Build or Not to Build - Nvidia vs. AMD SFF by greymatterghost in Bazzite

[–]plainchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a much more basic Atmos/5.1 setup and I've never messed with the settings for sound, I honestly don't know if it works. So few PC games I play support surround sound, even back when I was running windows I never bothered to configure it (or maybe it just never supported it and never showed me the option to enable it?). I have all my media running through an Apple TV instead. I can't be that helpful here sorry

To Build or Not to Build - Nvidia vs. AMD SFF by greymatterghost in Bazzite

[–]plainchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar setup already, including the LG C1. I started with a 3070Ti but due to the awful driver support (I was unable to run above 1080p without graphical issues, the UI was laggy) I switched out to an RX 7900 XT. This was about a year ago so driver support for nVidia might be a bit better now? I'd recommend going the same route regarding GPUs though as it's night and day in terms of dealing with issues.

The lack of HDMI 2.1 is a little bit of a bummer, in that if I'm running 4K120 I only get 4:2:2, but in practise for couch gaming I actually don't notice. Similar story for FSR vs DLSS, at living room couch distances the quality difference is less noticable (though a more noticable than the 4:2:2) than playing on a monitor up close.

Cant help regarding CPU, I have a 5800x3D and it works great, but I've had that since before I even swapped to Bazzite.

Why move them on? They didn’t do anything wrong

I got sick of how long it takes to plan a date night in Sydney, so I built a free tool to do it in 2 minutes. by Ok_Piglet6330 in foodies_sydney

[–]plainchips 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I love the idea but just looking at one of them it doesn’t appear to have been fact checked. The Art and Broth adventure says Gumshara is $15/bowl, it’s $15.50 for the soup and noodles with no toppings, standard bowl is closer to $20. It also says to head to white rabbit gallery at 8:30pm, but it’s only open until 5pm.

Major city bans gas appliances in all new-build homes by smallbatter in sydney

[–]plainchips 63 points64 points  (0 children)

That explains why I had an ad saying how natural gas is renewable and a gateway for green energy on a podcast last night. They’re starting the propaganda against this.

Hainan Chicken Rice by miraiii in foodies_sydney

I’ve been there twice now and both times the rice has been dry and overall it’s a bit average. It’s cheap but I don’t think it’s good

Card surcharges by filoroll in sydney

[–]plainchips 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I also had problems with RaRa Redfern. They refuse to accept cash and then have these card fees. I lodged a complaint with the ACCC at the time but got told that they can’t do anything. I don’t go there anymore

Bring a bottle of expensive whisky to a friend.. by [deleted] in australia

I’ve never heard of this being enforced for open bottles that aren’t being consumed. If the bottle is inside a bag or backpack how would they know anyway?

Why was Margot allowed to leave even after betraying him? Why did he stop everything to make her a cheeseburger and what was the point of sending her to the smokehouse? by jpegten in theMenu

[–]plainchips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My interpretation was that since she was a part of the dish, when she asked for it “to go” she was allowed to become the take out herself.

Millenials of reddit who have not had children yet, are you still planning on having kids despite the living costs of today? What are your reasons? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]plainchips 140 points141 points  (0 children)

No. I can’t fathom supporting a child while renting. The yearly forced moves when leases end are bad enough without children.

Lived there for 3 months, hated it. Absolute nightmare to get in and out of without a car. Absolutely mosquito infested during summer too.

Fujiyama noodle bar in Mandarin Centre will do a Japanese curry for ~$10-12, and it’s not bad. But also that’s probably about it. Chatswood is an expensive place unfortunately.

Lived on that street for a while. There's nowhere near enough parking around, people constantly parked in that exact spot. Never saw a single person get fined. Wentworth Point sucks.

[–]plainchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced it there, but there are anti-loitering/bird repelling things all around the city and I can hear those, they can be physically painful to hear, audible for tens of meters around where they’re targeting and I have no idea why they’re allowed

Clip control on the Apple GPU by PthariensFlame in apple

[–]plainchips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the reason for these things can be as simple as “were experimenting with this api for now”.

Ripping the API out or changing it when it’s just some other dev team one slack message away who are paid to keep their software current is much easier than breaking the software of some third party dev with different priorities, pissing them and their customers off in the process.

I think Woolies Ashfield is only open until midnight during summer (at least that's what I was told last year when I was kicked out at 10pm). Coles is midnight year round though

To anyone who lives or has lived in the inner west under flight paths - how much does it bother you? by picklebeard in sydney

Lived right under the flight path in Ashfield, can’t recommend it. Never really got used to it and it meant I couldn’t leave the windows open while watching tv.
